To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, FRANK J. Mnzcon, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an w and useful Razor-Hone Holder, of which the following is a specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.

This invention relates to a razor hone holder, and it is an improvement over the razor hone holder shown in my Patent No. 1,396,587.

The object oi. this invention is to reduce the size of the razor hone holder and to reduce the expense of making the same.

Another object of the invention is to provide a support for the hone which will be more or less yielding thereby giving the hone a support more like the hand than the ordinary rigid holder, while at the same time the hone is always held in the given position and angle which makes it more satisfactory and eflicient in use than if the hone was held in the hand.

The disadvantage of holding the hone with hand extended fiat is that while there is more or less satisfactory yielding of the hone there is also a very undesirable wobbly movement of the hone which results in uneven sharpening. With the present invention the yielding of the support permits the hone to give as it does when held inthe hand, but holds steadily in the desired position.

Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.

An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which the same reference numeral is applied to the same portion throughout, but I am aware that there may be modifications thereof.

The holder consists of a standard 1, fiat base 2, which base is provided with a rubber Serial No. 577,194.

pad 3. The standard is narrowed at the top to provide flat sides to receive two dependingears 4. and 5 of the two horizontally extending plates 7 and 8. Each of the plates 7 and 8 has two depending ears 9 and 10. These ears are slotted, as shown at 11, to allow two rods 12 and 13 to pass through.

These rods are provided with right and left hand threads, and they have knurled heads.

The plates 7 and 8 carry two soft rubber pads, as shown at 16 and 17. These pads are recessel transversely, as shown at 18 and 19. This provides {our narrow raised bars upon which the hone 2O rests. The plates 7 and 8, and the two rubber pads 16 and 17 have an opening cut therein to receive the four plates 21 to 24 inclusive. These plates have a horizontally extending portion upon which the hone rests and have vertical portions to embrace the opposite sides of the hone. They are also provided with depending portions 27 to 30 inclusive, through which the rods carrying the right and left hand screws pass.

These depending lugs are long enough so that the rods 12 and 13 do not touch the under-side of the plates 7 and 8 and the depending flanges 9 and 10 are slotted so as to allow a considerable downward movement of said rods when pressure is brought to bear upon the hone, and when the hone is placed in position on the rubber pads, the rods 12 and 13 are rotated to cause the plates 21 to 2% inclusive to securely grip the hone but it is held in a given position solely by the rubber pads so that when the razor is drawn back and forth upon it it may give sutliciently to produce a more perfect edge on the razor than is usually produced when the hone is held upon a rigid or solid surface.

What I claim is as follows, but various modifications may be made in the construction shown in the drawings and above particularly described form, within the purview of my invention.

A. hone holder comprising the combination of the base having a rigid post with a pair of supporting plates, each plate having a laterally extending portion with two depending flanges each having a longitudinal slot, a bolt for securing the two plates to the post, a rubber pad having a transverse recess carried by each plate a pair of clamp members resting in the recess of each pad and having depending lugs projecting therethrough, and a right and left hand threaded rod for bringing said clamping members against the hone, said rod having knurled nuts thereon Where the rods project through 10 the slots in said plates.
