The heatin unit preferably consists of a plurality of e ements each having a core 34 of asbestos or like material provided with a Winding 35 consisting of resistance coils preferably of #21 resistance Wire, coiled to an inside diameter of 1/8 of an inch and the pitch of coils to be 5/64th of an inch. This heater is in circuit With a source of electrical supply represented by the battery 36 but which obviously may be the ordina house lighting system with which the lea s or conductors 37 are connected. Said elements of the heating unit are ,preferably arrangedin afrim as indicated in Figure 5 with side bars 38 connected by bolts 39 extending thrrouvh the terminals of the cores of the elements' which may as indicated in Figure T he provided with projections 40 o r the like7 for engagement with the sides of an opening 4l formed in the grate 22, and connected with each core, at opposite ends thereof are the clips 42,-preferably ofbre and 43 of metal respectively, .(theimetal for example being copper or` brass) the libre clip is provided with grass or copper screws 44 with washers and nuts for the attachment of the conductors which connect with the extremities of the resistance coils Wound upon said cores. Having thus described th'e invention, what WeV claim. is z- 1. `A `re place heater having an electrical heating unit, a refractory housing enclosing theY same, and a radiator manifold having elements arranged in the field of radiation of the unit and heated thereby.

2. A fire place heater having an electrical heating unit, a refractory housing enclosing the same, anda radiator manifold having elements arranged in the field of radiation of the unit and heated thereby, and connected by circulating conductors disposed respectively above and below the plane thereof.

3. A tire place' heater having an electrical heating unit and an associated lighting unit, a .refractory porous housing enclosing said units and a radiator manifold having elements arranged in the Held of radiation of the heating unit andheated thereby.

4. A re place` heater having an electrical heating unit and an associated lighting unit, a refractory .porous housing enclosing said units and a radiator manifold having elements arranged inuthe field of radiation of the heating unit and heated thereb-y,.the latter consisting of a plurality of-elements each having a refractory7 core provided at opposite ends With'fibre andllnetallio clips provided with binding `postsand a resistance coil winding embracing the'core.
