the appearance of being permanently a partthereof. It is an advantage at times to have an identification mark or name on an automobile which is used in business, or in pleasure, as an advertisement, and it sometimes happens that a salesman uses his own car in the business of his company and desires to have the car so marked, and yet to be able to detach the sign when desired. The object of my invention is to provide a neat and comparatively inexpensive sign of this character1 which can be readily detached at will and which is ca able of use with most cars in use. I have illustrated two embodiments of my invention on the accom anyin drawings which I will now descrl e:
igure 1 shows one embodiment of my invention in use, art of anautomobile being indicated in lig t broken lines;
.Figure 2 is a side elevation of another embodiment of my invention; Figure 3 is a perspective view ofthe same device;
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the device shown in Fig. 1; and
Figure 5 is a sectional view thereof, on line :B5- of Fig. 4.
Referring to Figs. l, 4 and 5, the invention comprises a sheet metal body, 1, covered With leather, 2, or other suitable covering, and` provided with two spring holding elements, 3, 3, adapted to yieldingly press against the -inside of the car or door and hold the device in place. In Figs. 2 and 3, the body is bent as shown at 1a, so as to hook over the upper edge of the door and be held in place. This styleis suitable for use on a door of the thickness of the bend, but if used on a door which is not so thick, it looks awkward. In the device shown in Figs. 1, 4 and 5, the upper edge of the de- Vice maybe made narrower, corresponding to the thickness of .the lighter doors, while the holding. fingers, or elements 3, 3, can be shaped tovit, either a thin door, or a thicker door, if the device is to be used thereon. If the upper edge of the body, which is bent to the angle', as at 1b, Fig. 5, is narrower than the thickest door it will still stay in place and not lookout of proportion. It will be evident that changes in details can be made without departing from the spirit of myinvention and I do not limitthe invention to the details except as I may be limited by the hereto appended claim..
An auto door sign comprising a fiat member on which it is used,
having its upper edge turned at right angles to overlie upper edge of door and having a `spring holding member from the horizontal part thereof extending downwardly and inwardl to yieldinglyengage the inside of said oor, substantiall as described.
Signed at Los Angeles, lifornia, this v 7th day of April, 1922.
