Be it known that I, J AMES M. DEAN, citizen of the United States, residing 'at Fort Worth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Scrapers and Cleaners, of which the'following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful 1 improvements in plow scrapers and cleaners.

In plowing the various kinds of land dif.' ferent conditions are encountered and the farmer. loses more time and exerts more or less unnecessary labor, on account of these 1: various conditions. For instance in moist Or wet soil it is necessary to frequently scrape off the dirt or mud which adheres to the plow blade, this being particularly true in the black land sections. In new and trashy land a large number of weeds, vines, small limbs and roots arevencountered and these catch under the beam and in front of the plow blade and must be frequently removed. Where the farmer is using a riding plow, he must dismount to scrape or clean the plow under the practice now in general use which comprises pulling the trash away by hand and scraping off the dirt with a stick or other convenient thing.

The object of my invention is to provide a single tool which may be used by the farmer for clearing and scraping a plow efficiently and expeditiously without dismountingfrom his seat and with the use of one hand only.

A further object is to provide a device for pulling trash from in front of a plow withrfmt dismounting and without fatiguing efort.

Another object of the invention is to provide means for engaging and supporting the tool on the frame of the plow within easy and convenient reach of the driver, whereby it may be quickly removed for immediate H use.

A construction designed to carry out the invention will be hereinafter described together with other features of the invention.

The invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specification and by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which an example of the invention is shown, and wherein:

In the drawings the numeral 10 designates a cylindrical handle whichis comparatively short and is provided with a scraper blade 11 at one end, the over-all length of the tool being approximately two feet, altho this measurement may vary. The handle has an enlarged hand grip 12 atIits upper'end, the bladebein'g at the lower end. This grip enables the 'driver to more easily grasp and holdthe handle.

The lower end of the handle has a transverse kerf 13 in which the shank 14: of the blade 11 is inserted and held by penetrating rivets 15. The shank extends upwardly from the center of the blade. The blade has its upper edges concaved on each side of the shank to form hooks 16 and the side edges 17 of the blade are curved upwardly and outwardly, the blade at the intersections of the hooks 16 and edges 17 being reduced to fingers 18 forming oontinuations of the hooks. This construction amplifies the hooks and provides fingers or points which may be more readily engaged over the weeds, vines, limbs, etc., which are to be pulled from in front of the plow.

The bottom edge 19 of the blade is reduced to form a cutter or scraper, but all other edges of the blade are blunt so as not to cut, particularly the hooks16. The driver grasping the handle grip 12 leans over, scrapes off the plow blade by pushing downwardly.

When the tool is not in use it should be supported in an accessible place and to do this I provide a spring clip 20 having its upper end fastened to the handle below the grip by means of a pair of rivets 21 or other means. The lower end of the clip is curved outwardly from the handle so as to be readily sprung away from the handle and engaged over a member of the plow frame and supported with the grip 12 in a convenient position to be grasped by the driver when he desires to use the tool. The clip is bowed over a pin 22 embedded in the handle and projecting from the handle in position to be engaged by the clip when the same is pulled from the plow frame, whereby excessive vibration and the resultant crystallization of the steel, is obviated. The pin also of the hook fingers 18 is turned downwardly which permits the driver to lean over and engage the said finger 18 and the hook 16 thereof over the Weeds, vines, limbs, etc.,

fter this operation, or if it is not necessary, the tool is turned so that the scra er edge 19 is brought into contact with the slde of the plow blade and by pushing downwardly the mud or adhering soil is scraped from the said blade. After the tool has been used it may be hung on the plow frame by engaging the .clip 20 over'the same. All of this is donewithout dismounting from "the plow seat and in an easy and expeditious as well as efiicient manner.

Various changes in the sizean d arrangement of the parts as well as modifications and alterations may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
