L. BOECHAT MANIGURING TOOL Filed Oct. 18. 1922 fmezyioif' 1 Patented Nov. 6, 1923.
UNITED STATES LUCIEN BOECHA'I, OF RITTMAN, OHIO.
MANICURIN G TOOL.
Application filed October 18, 1922. Serial No. 595,223.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, LUCIEN BOEGHAT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rittman, in the county of Wayne and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Manicuring Tool, of which the follow ing is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in manicuring tools; and its principal object is to provide a simple and efiicient tool for a manicure, to hold an emery coated sheet panying drawings, in which similar letters and figures of reference indicate like parts.
Referring thereto, Fig. l is a general view of a manicuring tool embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same on the dotted line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a like view showing the card holding member drawn out of the handle in positionto admit the card thereto;
and Fig. 4. is a plan view of an abrasive card, such as I preferably use for the purpose.
In the drawings, A is the handle, B the abrasive card, which is preferably surfaced with a coating of fine emery, or the like, on both sides and edges, and is of suitable dimensions to lie flatwise snugly between the engaging arms a, and b of the card-holder C. D is a metallic thimble having a conical opening at its outer end, and fitted into the end of the handle A, which is hollowed longitudinally, as at d, for the purpose, and to admit the upper end ofthe card holde C to reciprocate therein and thru said thimble. The card holder G is formed by doubling together lengthwise a strip of resilient metal at its lower end f, and spaced apart sufficiently to admit the card B flatwise between its adjacent members a and b loosely. aid members are secured closely together at their upper ends, and there terminate with a cap e which serves to limit their outward movement by abutting against the upper end of the thimble D, as shown at C Fig. 3, when the card holder is drawn out of the handle a limited distance. Said members are cut apart at a point slightly within the lower edge of the conical opening r-Arsnr OFFICE.
of the thimble D when the card holder is drawn out to its limits, as shown in F ig. 3-
and by their resilience are; there spread apart to the limit of said conical opening,
as shown at a, 6, whereby saidcard may be readily withdrawn or inserted, as may be required- When the card is inserted between said members, the latter are tightly drawn together thereon by pushing the'card holder upwardly into the cavity within the handle to its limits, by the pressure of said conical surface upon the resilient member a, as it slides thereon upwardly into the bore of said thimble, to theposition shown in Fig. 2, C, whereby said card B is firmly held in proper position with relation to the handle A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. It is also apparent that, by the means aforesaich abrasive sheets or cards of any desired shape I or size for the purpose may be quickly and safely adjusted to the handle, or removed therefrom when change is required on account of use or wear, anda simple and efficient and handy manicuring tool is provided.
I do not wish to limit my claim of invention to mere matter of form, but claim such modifications as are fairly within the scope of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim is In a device of the character described, the combination with a handle, having a longitudinal cavity therein, an inwardly sloped thimble mounted in the lower, end of said cavity, and bored longitudinally alimited distance, a card holder comprising a pair of opposite arms longitudinally disposed and adapted to eciprocate in said thimble a limited distance by manual pressure, said arms matically by their resilience when drawn downwardly thru said thimble to predetercut apart and adapted to spread apart autoy I mined limits, and to'be drawn together when pushed upwardly a limited" distance thru said thimble, and an abrasively coated sheet or card fitted to lie flatwise between said arms, removably, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand this 12th'day of October, A. D. 1922.
LUCIEN BOECHAT. In presence of two witnesses:
WM. M. SHACKLEFORD 7 F ERD SHREIBER.
