v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
HENBY F. PUTTAERT AND MARCEL MOREAU, OF SAN FRANCI ESCO, CALIFORNIA.
PORTABLE ELECTRIC FAN.
Application filed February 13, 1922. Serial No. 538,058.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HENRY F. PUTTAERT and MARCEL MOREAU, citizens of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Electric Fans, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention is a pocket fan which is simple and compact in construction, efiicient in operation and durable.
Referring to the annexed drawing in which our invention is illustrated and which forms a part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of our pocket fan.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of our fan taken at rightangles to Figure 1. Figure 3 is a diagram of the fan circuit. In the drawing 1 indicates a cylindrical handle and 2 .a hood which screws on the upper end of said handle. A plug 3 of in sulation is fitted in the upper end of the handle 2. An induction motor 5 is mounted on said plug in said hood, the armature shaft 6 of which motor extends through the side wall of said hood and carries on its outer end a propeller fan 7 Through the center of theplug 3 extends a contact 8, the upper end of which is connected by a wire 9 to the motor brush 10.
A dry cell battery 11 is mounted in the handle 1 on the upper end of which battery is a terminal 12 which engages the contact 8. A cap 13 screws on the lower end of handle 1 against a spring-14 which bears against the lower contact end of the'battery 11 whereby the battery is maintained in position in the handle and is grounded on the handle. A switch 15 includes a pair of ring contacts 16 and 17 secured to the lower and upper sides of the plug 3 and connected by pins 18, a sliding contact 19 on the inside of the handle 1,- and a sliding switch button 20 secured to the outer end of said sliding 21 in said handle.
Having described our invention, we claim 1. A pocket fan including a hollow handle, a cap adapted to close one end thereof, a hood adapted to be screwed on the other end thereof, a battery enclosed in the handle, a plug of insulation adapted to be inserted in the upper end of the handle, a ring contact on each side of the plug, pins connecting the rings, a slidable contact adapted to contact with'the lower contactring, a motor, a shaft therefor extending outside of the hood, a propeller fan mounted on the outside of the hood on the shaft, a lead extending from the upper ring contact to the motor and a lead extending from the motor to the battery.
2.. A pocket fan including a hollow handle, a cap adapted to close one end there- 'of, a hood adapted to be screwed on the other end thereof, a batter enclosed in the handle, a plug oi insulation adapted to be inserted in the upper end of the handle, a ring contact on each side of the plug, pins connecting the rings, a slidable contact, one end of which extends through a slot in the handle whereby the same may be manually actuated and adapted to con tact with the lower contact ring, a motor, a shaft therefor extending outside of the hood on the shaft, a lead extending from the upper ring contact to the motor and a lead extending from the motor to the battery.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures.
HENRY F. PUTTAERT. MARCEL MOREAU.
