LENZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Valve-Casing Caps, of which the following is a specification. v j
'This invention relates to faucets and the objects of Illy-improvements thereon, are
' first, to'provide a faucet having its various elements so arranged that they may be easily assembled and disassembled; second, to provide a cone shaped valveA having its small end provided with a port Vwhich communicates with a transverse port for a purpose to be hereinafter more fully brought out; third, to provide a durable Vand lasting faucet which requires no washers Aand will compensate for the contraction and expansion of the faucet and fourthly to provide avcap prodescribed.

By referring to thefaccompanying drawings, it will be seen that the modifications disclosed in Figure 1 relate particularl' to a shampoo faucet and consists of the ase 1 having the two inlet pipes 2. These inlet pipes 2 are pro-vided with the ports 2 which Y refer to the' valve mechanism to the right of the'faucet but it will of course be understood thatv the mechanism to the left-is an exact duplicate thereof. Y
'In the valvev seat 4 there is situated they valve 10 which has the longitudinal openin 11 which opens through the small end of the conical shaped valve 10 sok asl to communicate withthe portion v3 of the faucet. .A transverse Yopening 12 is provided inthe` valve 10 so as to communicate with the portl 2 when the valve stem 14 is turned by means of the handle 15. Integrally extendingfrom" the valve seat 4 there is provided` the neck ahoseis adapted to ybe received. `I shall just *Y 5 which is threaded at 6to receive the cap 7 which is also threaded at 6 and is provided .with the integrally extending pintle 8r which isconic-al shaped and provided with a bore throughI which passes the stem 14. This conical shaped pintle 8 is adapted to rec-eive the conicalshaped coil spring 9 so as to protect the same fromv the wear which would be occasioned by the rotation` of the stem 14 and at the same time to force `the valve 10 tightly within the valve seatf4. `It
will also be seen that by having the pintle conical shaped thatthe mechanism may be easily and quickly assembledv by placing the coil springv over thestem 14 and afterwards sa Y threading the cap 7 over the neclg whereby The valve 10 is of the same construction as the modification just described and is situated in the conical valve seat 4 which is provided with the neck` 5 threaded at 6 for receiving the cap 7 which in turn has theY conical shaped pintle'V 8 for receiving the springs 9. The valve 10 has the usual stem 14 for receiving the handle 15 for rotating the same. It will be seen that the water will pass through the pipe 20 `intoY the opening 12" and through the longitudinal bore 11 intov the spout Y y The modification shown in Figures 3 and 4 is adapted to be used in bath tubs whereby the hot and cold water ymay be passed l through a singleV outlet 27 so' as to have the temperature..thereolas desired. The inlets 29 arek provided ivithguards and the threaded portion 30 upon which is situated the lock nut 31. VIn between the valve portions there is also provided the soap container 28 which is situated above the body portion 26 f the faucet. rIhe valve mechanism to the left and .right are duplicatesof the valve-v Aication having` the advantage oi being easily assembled and-disassembled. In thev modilication shown in Figure 'E2 it will be readily seenthat considerable pressure would vbe necessary to yovercome this tendency `of the valve te stay Within its valve seat and even in the medilications disclosed in Figures l and 3 itv will be seen that this valve f seat vvould'rovercome' such pressure as would be caused by the water in the system after the main valveY of the systemhad been shut off and in all. ofthe modifications this "Y valve could be easily heldin place by the operator rWhile removin o` the cap and* spring. I Wish it understood t at the above are the preferred forms of useof this valve mechamsm but I vWish it understood that I may make such changes in construction, combi nation and arrangement ,of parts as Will fall Within the scope oli the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is'z-l l. In a valve, `a casing having aconical shaped bore communicating With an vinlet and an outlet, a conical cup-.shaped valve mounted in the bore of the casing, a stem extending from the valve through the casing, a .cap for the casing including a .flat
disk having a'rcentral aperture, an annular threaded flange extending at rightr angles to the cap for engagement with the casing, a centrally located and integrally extending conicall shaped pintle provided upon said cap andhfiing a longitudinal bore 'extend ing parallel toA said flange and registering with said opening, said y stem extending through the bore of'said pintle,'anda coni-V cal shapedy coil spring` disposed aboutsaid pintle and bearingagainst the valve for holding it in the bore of :the casing, said pintle providing a relatively long bearing for said stem and also providing a guide for said spring.

As a new article of manufacture, allait disk shaped cap having a centrally located aperture,` an. annular threaded llange eX- tending at right angles to the cap, a centrall located and integrally extendingiconical shaped pintle provided upon said cap and having a* longitudinal vbore extending parallel to said'flange registering with theY opening in Said cap, saidpintle terminating substantially coplanaravith the end Vof kthe flange.Y Y V A. -Y Y In testimony whereof I allix my signature in' presence of twofwvitnesses.
