UNITED STATES tenses PIERRE CLAVIER, 0F TARIBES, FRANCE.
METAL HORSE-COLLAR FRAI'EEWORK FORMING A TUBE.
Application filed July 1, 1921. Serial No. 481,896.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that PIERRE CLAVIER, citizen of the Republic of France, and resident of Tarbes, France (post-oflice address Tarbes, Hautes-Pyrenees), has invented a new and useful Metal Horse-Collar Framework Forming a Tube, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification.
The present invention relates to horse collars and has for its object to provide a metal frame or border therefor to eliminate the seams generally necessary on ordinary horse collars.
My invention will be fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawing in which 1 is a perspective view of a horse collar embodying my invention; 2 is a more or less diagrammatic elevation of the assembled metal frame or border; Fig. 3 is a similar elevation of the metal frame or border, the parts of which are shown separated; Fig. 4 is a detail; Fig. 5 is a cross section on line A-B of Fig. 2; and Fig. (i is a similar section of a modified form of my construction.
H denotes a horse collar of ordinary construction. Usually the marginal edges h ofthe leather pieces from which the horse collar is formed are seamed. To simplify the construction and reduce labor by eliminating the seams, I provide a. metal frame or border which constitutes the subject of the present invention. The same according to the present embodiment is composed of two symmetric hollow members or sec-- tions 1 and 2, suitably curved to conform with the curvature of the horse collar and open along the inner face to form a slot 7 extending throughout the entire length of each member. The end edges 1 of the members along said slot 7 are somewhat extended and bent substantially at a right angle to the body portion. These members are adapted to be mounted over the horse collar sothat the edges It of the pieces of leather of which the latter is composed engage the slot 7 of each section or member 1 and 2, and are retained in position thereon by compressing the edges 1 of said members. At the junction of the two members, a hollow member 3 curved in conformity with the inner circumference of the members 1 and 2 and serving as a lining is fitted inside the hollow of the latter so as to overbridge their joint while around the outer faces of the members 1, 2 at the junction thereof a metal member 4 is applied which is bent in form of a split ring to securely hold the members together. In Fig. '5 the members 1, 2 are of single thickness, while in Fig. 6 the same are shown of double thicknesses, as at 1 IVhat I claim and desire to secure by Let; ters Patent is 1. In a horse collar, a metal frame around the marginal edge thereof, said frame being composed of two symmetric curved and hollow sections each open on its inner face to form a slot, the edges along said slot being extended and adapted to be compressed to retain the frame in position and an outer member adapted to be mounted around the junction of the said two members to join the latter together.
2. In a horse collar, a metal frame around. the marginal edge thereof, said frame being. composed of two symmetric curved and l ol low sections, each open on its inner face to form a slot, the edges along said slotbeing extended and adapted to be compressed to retain said frame in position, alining fitted inside said sections to overbridge the junction thereof and an outer member to join said two sectionstogether.
3. In a horse collar, a metal frame around the marginal edge thereof, said frame being composed of two symmetric curved and hollow sections, each open on its inner face to form a slot, the edges along said slot being extended and adapted to be compressed to retain said frame in position, a tubular member inside the hollow of said two sec tions to overbridge the junction thereof, and an outer ring joining said two sections together.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PIERRE CLAVIER.
