To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD Mower, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rock Falls, in the county of Whiteside and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Windrow Loaders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My invention relates to hayloaders and more particularly to. the endless elevator t e.
lhe principal object of my invention is to provide an improved pivoted section positioned at the delivery end of the elevator of a hayloader and adjustable with respect thereto.
A further object is to provide an improved adjustable mechanism for the pivoted section of the elevator within easy reach of the operator on the hay rack.
These and other objects are obtained by providing a pivoted section to the elevator frame, the upper end of said section being adapted to support a crank shaft for winding a flexible element for efiecting the adjustment of the pivoted section.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention- Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a standard endless belt hayloader embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the pivoted section.
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail view, partly in section showing the pivoted connection.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view of the ratchet mechanism for locking the ivoted section in adjusted positions.
The same reference character designates like parts throughout the several views.
The hayloader here shown is of the standard endless belt type and comprises the usual forwardly extending side frame membore 5, disposed on the opposite sides of the machine having their forward ends mounted on the. front carr ing wheels 6 and their rear ends moun on rear trac tion wheels 7 which carry the elevator wheel 8.
The elevator frame, comprises upwardly and forwardly inclined members 9 and 10 disposed upon the opposite sides of the machine and having their upper ends supported by means of vertically disposed frame members 11, fixed to side frame membersfi. The frame member 10 is supported by the transversely disposed frame angle 12 fixed to the vertical member 11.
The mechanism for elevating the hay includes a pair of chains or endless belts 13 disposed. on the opposite sides of the machine and having cross slats 14 spaced at intervals attached to said belts. These belts 13 engage the wheels 8 and are operatively driven thereby to elevate the hay.
Pivotally attached to the frame member 10 at 15 is an adjustable section 16. This adjustable section comprises the side members 16 disposed on the opposite sides of the machine and having diagonally disposed cross braces 17 fixed thereto and also an additional reinforcement is provided by a cross bar 18 secured to the sides 16 at the adjacent the upper ends and to the outsides of the members 16 are a set of brackets 19 which are adapted to adjustably receive the bearing members 20 of the shaft 21. Formed integrally with the shaft 21 is a crank handle 22 for the purposes hereinafter set forth. J ournaled on the shaft 21 are the flanged pulleys 23 over which the endless belt 13 passes. The mechanism for adjusting the pivoted section includes extensions of the shaft 21 forming winding drums 24 outside the pulleys 23. Securely fixed to these drums 24 are flexible members or wires 25, which are adapted to be wound around the drums 24. Connected to and extending rearwardly fromthe flexible member 25 is a connecting rod 26 which is pivotally connected to the upper end of the vertically disposed frame member 11. The side members 16' have securely fixed adjacent their lower ends hinge members-27 provided with an arcuate slot 28 adapted to guide and limit the adjustable section by means of a pin 29 extending thru the slot 28 and fixed to the frame member 10. The adjustable section 16 is hinged at 15 to brackets 30 disposed on the opposite sides of the loader and fixed to the transversely disposed angle 12 by means of a bolt 31, as shown in Fig. 3.
From the above description it will be noted that in order to effect an adjustment of the pivoted elevator section, the hand lever is. actuated in a manner to wind or unwind the flexible member 25 upon the drums 24 and that means are also provided for.
locking the extension in the desired position of adjustment comprising a ratchet member 32 fixed to the shaft 21 and adapted to engage a gravity pawl 33, as shown in F ig. 4. The gravity pawl 33 is'normally held in engagement with the ratchet 32 by a weight 34 formed integrally with the pawl. The pawl 33 is pivoted at 35 to a bracket member 36 having a bifurcated portion 37 adapted to engage both sides of the ratchet 32 and journaled on the shaft 21. The end of the bracket 36 has a rearwardly extending portion 38 adapted to protrude through an aperture 39 in the cross bar 18 in a manner to permit a sliding movement relative thereto.
From the above description it will be noted that a tightening of the endless elevator belt 13 may be had by adjusting the bracket bearings 20 and thereby adjusting the shaft '21 relative the frame members 16' and permitting the extension 38 of the bracket 36 to slide relative to the cross bar 18.
In order to prevent the slats 14 from be-' ing caught on the ratchet member 32, a wheel 40 over which the slats ride is journaled on the shaft. 21 and held from lateral displacement on one side by acollar 41 fixed to the shaft 21 and on to the other side by the bracket 36.
From the above description it will be noted that I have provided a very simple, durable and efficient adjustable pivoted section to the elevator of a hayloader and one in which the adjustments of same may be readily made by the operator on the hay rack.
Having described one embodiment which my invention may assume, it is to be under- Stood that the same may be modified with out departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
lVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters atent is:
1. In a hayloader, a frame, carrying Wheels therefor, an elevator frame carried by said first mentioned frame, an elevator section pivoted to said elevator frame, and means including a crank, and a shaft extending across the delivery end of said section for adjusting said section in a plurality of positions.

3. In a hayloader, a frame, carrying wheels therefor, an elevator frame carried by said first mentioned frame, an endless belt mounted on said elevator frame and operatively driven by said wheels, an elevator section pivoted to said elevator frame comprising a shaft positioned at the delivery end of said section and forming bearings for pulleys over which said endless belt is operatively driven, and means for rotating said shaft for adjusting said section.
4. Ina hayloader, a frame, carrying wheels therefor, an elevator frame carried by said first mentioned frame, an endless belt mounted on said elevator frame and operatively. driven by said wheels, an elevator section pivoted to said elevator frame comprising a shaft positioned at the delivery end of said section and forming bearings for pulleys over which said endless belt is operatively driven, a crank for rotating said shaft for adjusting said section and means journaled on said shaft for locking said shaft in predetermined positions of adj ustment.
5. In a hayloader, a frame, carryim wheels therefor, an elevator frame carrie by said first mentioned frame, an elevator section pivoted to said elevator frame and means including a shaft movable laterally with respect to said section and rotatably adjustable for adjusting said section in a plurality of positions.
6. In a hayloader, a frame, carrying wheels therefor, an elevator frame carried by said first mentioned frame, an elevator section pivoted to said elevator frame, means including a shaft mounted in said section for lateral and rotary adjustment, and means carried by said shaft forclocking shaft against rotary movement.
