This invention relates-to improvements in haircurlers for curling or wavin'g hair, and more particularly has reference to hair curlers of the type comprising two arms and formed or" asingle piece of metal with a locking device tor holding the freeends of the two ai'ms'in closed position when the hair has been wound upon'one of the arms. One of the objections heretofore experienced in hair curlers of .thistype has been that the arm on whichthe' hair was wound has been usually tormed'o't fiat metal, or at leastotmetal having well-pronounced or sharp edge portions which are calculated to cut or injure the hair whenit iswound thereon and the two members of the curler are brought into lockingposition. On the other hand, it is desirable to have at least one member or the curler formed of flat metal in order to get a broad locking bearingot the arm uponithe mass of hair wound upon the other arm. it

One of the objects of the present invention, therefore, is to provide a hair curler of the general type referred to, wherein the hair receiving portion of the curler shall be formed of a stiff or substantially unyielding rod of rounded contour in crosssection on which the hair may be wound, and a fiat and flexible member for holding the hair properly wound upon the rounded stifl' rod.

The curler ofthe present invention, therefore, consists of a single piece of metal, comprising a stilt rod of rounded contour on which the hair may be wound,.a flat flexible member, and in which also the metal of the stiff rod is flattened at one end to form a spring loop connecting one end of the arms. In thus forming the curler, the flattened metal of the hair receiving stiff rod also provides a shoulder adjacent one end of the rod which acts as a stop to prevent the hair from bodily movement longitudinally of the stiff rod towards the spring loop. a

What isclaimed is:

1. A hair curler formed of a of spring metal and comprising a 'fiat flexible arm and a solid stifit' hair receiving rod of roundedcontour in cross-seetion'and presenting no edges liable tobreak or injure V the hair wound thereon, the metal of the hair receiving rod being flattened and widened beyond the diametrical diniensionof the red at one endandmerging into the iiatjfiexible arm to form wvidened stop shoulder for limiting the'movement of the hair longitudinally of the stiff rod and a spring loop connecting the flexible arm and stiff rod, and a lock for connecting the free ends of the fiexiblearm and .stiii rod.

A" hair curler formed of a single piece of spring metal and comprising a flat fiexr ible arm and a stiff hair receiving rod substantially round and solid infcross-section and presenting no edge liable "to injurethe hair wound thereon, the metal at one end of the hair receiving rod being flattened and expended laterally into "a part wider than the diameter of the rod 'to form' a spring'loop and hair stop between the stiff rod and flat flexible arm, and a locking; recess. formed on the free end ofth'e' fiat the hair bodily in a directionlongitudinally j single piece flexible arm to receive and protectthe endf of the stillened rod. 1
