Be it known that I, HARRY J. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greensboro, 'inthe county of Guilford and State of North Carolina, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Car provision of such a rerailerthat may be expeditiously positioned upon the rail at opposite-sides thereof, and wherein the tendenoy of :the same to slip' upon the rail is reduced to a minimum.
A further object of this invention is the provision of such a device, that will embrace the desired features of simplicity, durability and efliciency, and that may be manufactured and marketed at small cost.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read 1n connection with the accompanying drawings,
the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed. v

This rerailer comprises a relativelyelongated rectangular shaped casting, of a length sufficient to engage upon at its opposite ends a pair of ties designated a. This casting has-a flange 5 at its outer side and ends which is formed upon its under surface near its outer longitudinal edge and end edges with prongs or spikes 6, which'eXtend' inwardly towards the center of the device, and are adapted to be forced into the said ties for effectively over-coming any tendency of the rerailer to creep.

extending bulged member or raised portion 7-, the outer side thereof extendingsubstantially parallel with the adjacent edge" of the flange 5, and being inclined and curved slightly inwardly towards the apex o'f' theb member 7. x
The opposite ends of the said'portion 7 are curved inwardly as moreclearly'shown in Figure 1, these ends'bei-ng also-rounded as more-clearly shown in Figure 2, whereby the car wheels are raised upwardly above the surface of the rail designated 6. The bulged member 7 is formed with a wingshaped, flattened upper portion 7 which is longitudinally inclined from the center of saidmemberontwardly toward its opposite ends and laterally toward the rail, the ends .7 of said flattened top portion diverging from f the centerof said member away from the rail.
Formed upon the inner edgeof the said raised or bulged'portion 7, and at a distance above the flange -5, equivalent to the height of the said rail Z2 is an inwardly extending flange portion 8, that engages over the said rail, in a manner clearly shown in several of the views.
The top surface of this flange 8 is longitu- V dinally, upwardly curved or of arcuate shape, the ends thereof being in close en-- gagement with the rail when the device is in use for permitting of the easy engage- 'ment of the car wheels thereon. Between this flange 8, and the said raised or bulged portion is a longitudinal carwheel flange groove 9, while the outer edge of said flange 8 is formed with a pendent skirt portion 10,
the upper side thereof beingshouldered at 11, also effecting a groove for the. flanges of said oar wheels, when the device'is employed upon the opposite rail;
