and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Electrical Switching Device, of which the following is a full, clear, andexact description.
This invention relates `to an electrical switching device, and has particular reference to a combined switch or cut-'out and fuse block in which the live parts are substantially entirely enclosed so that the danger of persons operating the switch coming in` contact with the live parts is reduced to a minimum. Y
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of means whereby the live parts above mentioned are substantially enclosed regardless of whether the switch is open or closed or in any position.
-A further object resides inthe provision of means whereby the fuses mounted in connection with this switch may be refilled and easily examined.
A still further object resides in the provision of means whereby in closing the switch the electrical circuit is not made until the lid-or cover is substantially entirely in place, so that if a fuse is blown no danger results, and in opening the switch the parts are separated before the cover or lid is moved any great distance, so that any arc formed by openingl the switch will not result in injury to the person operating it.
Another object resides in the particular construction and arrangement of parts which are hereinafter described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings.

As shown in the drawings, the preferred form of my invention comprises, as shown in Figs. -1 to 4 inclusive, a, base portion 1 in the form of a block or slab of any suitable insulating material. On the upper surface of this base portion are provided a plurality of recesses, such as 2, in which switch terminal clips, such as 3, are located. These clips are of any suitable well-known type and provided with the usual binding posts 4. Holes or apertures, such as 5, may be forme-d inthe base portion to receive wires leading to the binding posts 4.

This body portion is provided with a plurality of recesses 7 so disposed as to align themselves over the recesses 2 when the body portion is.l in position on theJ base portion. formed slots 8 extend from the recesses upwardly through the body portion to form a passage for other members of the switch to make contact with the clips 3. These are connected suitably to the lid portion and are provided with binding screws, such as 13. Apertures 14 eX- tend through the lid to the underside of the knife blades 1215er testing purposes. A fuse, such as 15, may extend between pairs ot' binding posts in the usual manner. The lid or cover 11 is provided with a longitudinally extending wall16 which is adapted to ex'- tend downwardly between the walls 9 on the body portion and engage with the rib 10 when the cover is in the closed position.

portion. These edges by their interengagement tend to provide a very rigid contact device which when closed is held properly end rigidly in assembled position.

Referring beck to Fig. 2, it will be observed thet the slots 8 are vsoinewhet curved, as et 9, to permit the proper entry 'of the blades i2 thereinto when the cover ll. is hinged on thebody portion 6.
This switch, therefore, it will be observed, is mede in two parts, one part being formed of the base and pockets or body portion which is disposed rather substantially around the `live contact, and the other part being; composed oi2 the fece or cover contain ing the switch blade end fuses. rThis whole device is nsed es s. bon switch. The insuloting parts of the switch may be molded, if desired, although any suitable insulating materialcen be used.' The switch, theretore, cen be constructed so that it is not necessary to piece it in e bon or under cover in order to prevent the operator from com-1 ingd in. contact with the live perte.
