To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM BERN STEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jamaica Plain, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molds for Rubber Heels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention such as will enable others, skilled in the art to which it appertains, to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a mold for rubber heels.
The object of the invention is to provide a mold for rubber heels of novel and improved construction adapted for use in the manufacture of rubber heels embodying the invention forming the subject matter of an application filed by me on even date herewith, Serial No. 560,705.
To this end the invention consists in the mold for rubber heels hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a plan of a portion of the mold showing the heel cavity and Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fi 1.
In the rubber heel forming the subject matter of my. co-pending application above referred to, a friction plug is'located in a recess formed in the lower portion of the heel body arranged 0 that the'friction plug protrudes slightly from the tread surface of the heel. The friction plug is vulcanized or bonded to the heel body at points above the tread surface and the lower lateral portions of the friction pl'ug are detached from the surrounding portions of the walls of the recess so as to form a space and to thereby permit flexure of the heel to take place without destroying the bond between the friction plug and the heel, so that under all conditions of wear the plug remains in the heel.
Referring to the drawings, the improved mold for producing such a heel comprises top and bottom plates 10 and 12 and an intermediate plate 14. The bottom plate is provided with a series of pins 16 upon which 1922. Serial No. 5603M.
It will therefore be observed that by forming pins 16 integrally with the metal plugs 20 and separate from'the remainder of the bottom plate .14 of the mold, that variations in the design of plu and its manner of attachment in the b0 y portion of the heel may be conveniently made without destroying or impairing the usefulness of the remaining portions of the mold.
Havin thus described the invention, what is claime is:
1. A mold for rubber heels having a heel cavity, means for supporting a friction plug in the heel cavity, and a spacing member for forming a space around the marginal portions of the bottom of the plug.
,2. A mold for rubber heels having a heel cavity, means for supporting the friction plug therein, and a flange upstanding from the bottom of the heel cavity surrounding the friction plug for forming a space around the lower marginal portions of the plug.
3. A mold for rubber heels having a heel cavity formed between top and bottom tea plates, a metal plug positioned in a preformed hole in the bottom plate, a pin carried by the plug for positioning a friction plug within the heel cavity, and a flange upstanding from the metal plug for forming a space surrounding the lower marginal portion of the friction plug.
