C. H. VVELD ATTACHMENT FOR NURSING NIPPLES Filed Dec. 19. 1921 I W/IO Patented 21, 1923.
CHESTER TH. W'ELD, OF GLENCOE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR ONE-THIRD TO ROY IB.
WELD, OF BOIIVDON, NORTH DAKOTA.
ATTACHMENT FOR NURSING- NIPPLES.
Application filed December 19, 1921. Serial No. 523,310.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Crmsrnn H. WELD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Glencoe, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in -Attachment s for Nursing Nipples, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments for nursing nipples, such as are used upon nursing bottles, and has for its main object to provide means insertable in the nipple to prevent collapsing of the nipple in the childs mouth.
Another object is to provide suclriusertable means which is removable and reversible, thereby greatly prolonging its period of usefulness. V 5
Other objects will appear hereinafter. The invention consists in the combination and arrangements of scribed and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which, V
.Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a nipple, with my improved member or insert shown in position therein,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the insert. taken at line 22 of Fig. 1, I
Fig. 3 is an end view of the insert, and
Fig. 4 is a cross section of the insert, taken at lined-4E of Fig. 2.
In the form of construction illustrated in the drawing, the insert 6 is tubular in shape and provided with a channel 7 through its center. A head 8 is provided at each-end of the insert, and each head is supplied with a plurality of lugs or arms 9. 2
The insert is detachably mounted in the upper portion of the nipple 10, as shown in Fig. 1, and is held in position therein by means of the lugs or arms 9, the upper lugs being placed in the head 11 of the nipple,
and the lower lugs beneath the neck 12, in.
the bottle-engaging portion of said nipple. The heads are made similar so that the insert may be reversed in the nipple, thereby providing two ends for insertion in the head of the nipple, and greatly prolonging the.
period of usefulness of the'insert.
The channel and the spaces between the parts hereinafter dewings 9 provide sufficient space to let the fluid flow freely to the upper openings 13 of the nipple, While the body and wings of the insert prevent collapsing thereof.
The insert is preferably composed of rub-.
ber of'a suitable degree of pliability and hardness, or of a similar suitable pliablesubstance, which will permit a slight yielding .to pressure exerted upon the nipple and inyet prevent collapsing of said sert, and pple.
The insert will be adapted in size and shape to suit the various-sizes and shapes of the various nipples.
While I have illustrated and described I.
in the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An insert'for a nursing nipple, comprising a tubular member provided with a central channel, and a plurality of integral spaced lugs at each end extending radially from said tubular'member and providing a contracted intermediate portion to fit in the contracted neck of the nipple.
2. An insert adapted to fit reversibly in a nursing nipple having a contracted neck l I connecting the nipple head with the bottle engaging portion of the nipple, said insert comprising a tubular member provided with 'variationsrand modifications as come witha central channel and a similar set of lugs at each end, the portion between said sets of lugs being narrow to fit loosely in the contracted neck of said nipple, said insert being adapted to be reversibly used with elther set of lugs extending into the-head of the nipple.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. 7 V
