x. SCHWARTZ CAN LINING Filed March 19. 1921 INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Aug. 2l, i923.
UNH@ STATES intatti' PATENT @FFHQO CAN MINING.
Application led March 19, 1921.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, llsABEL SCHWARTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful improvements in Can Linings, of which the following is a speciiication.
rfhis invention relates to garbage can linings and has for its object to provide a simple and cheap lining formed of moistureproofed paper, that may be secured within the! can for the purpose of keeping the same in a sanitary condition.
Another object is to provide a lining of this nature which shall be antiseptic so as to destroy disease or other cultures.
To these ends the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specific-ation in which like numerals designate like parts in all views:-
Figure l is a perspective view of a garbage can showing my invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Figure 3 is a detail view of the lining shown in its folded position.
Figure 4c is a view of the paper blank from whicln' the lining is formed.
Heretofore, as is well-known, the small or domestic size of garbage can after being once used, generally becomes very .unsanitary, this due to the fact that particles of the garbage stick to the inner sides of the can 40 and decay.
By the use of an. improved lining constructed in accordance with my invention this defect is overcome-and a garba e can may be at all times kept in a neat an san-ita condition. v
eferring to the drawings in detail 1 indicates a garbage car of the usual domestic size and provided with the bail 2. Within the can 1s positioned a bag 3 preferably formed of suit-able paper chemically treated to render it moisture proof for the purpose of lining the interior wall of the can and preventing the garbage from sticking there- Serial No. 453,602.
to. 'llie paper is also treated to render it aseptlc and' antiseptic in any well known manner. The upper edge of the bag is folded over the edge of the can as at 4, and then refolded upon itself as at 5 which functions as a reinforcement to withstand the wear produced by the cover.
A. cord 6 is run through the folded edge of the bag and around the outer edge of the can and when its ends are tied together, it operates to hold the folded edge in position and to-prevent the interference of the folded edge of the bag with the free movements of the bail 2, its opposite side edges are cut away as at 7.
The bag is preferably formed of a single blank 8 as shown in Figure t, and is cut at one end at a series of points 9, for the purpose of providino a series of flaps 10 which are bent upon themselves and sealed when the bottom of the bag is formed. At the other end the blank is cut as at 11--11 to provide openings 12- 12' through which the bail 2 projects when the bag is secured to position ona pail. At one end the blank is also scored along the dotted lines 13-13 -for the purpose of conveniently folding the bottom'and at the other end along the line 14 for conveniently forming the bent over or reinforcin edge as before described and through whic the cord 6 is adapted to pass.
From the foregoing it may be seen that by the use of a moisture proof, antiseptic paper can lining constructed in accordance with my invention, that when a can is empt-ied of its contents the lining is also thrown away and a new one substituted, thereby keeping the can in a perfectly sanitary condition and doin away with the usual and disagreeable met od of washing out the can every time the same is used.
1t is obvious that those skilled in the4 art may vary the details of construction and arrangements of parts without departing from the spirit of my vinvention and therefore l do not wish to be limited to such features except as may be required by the claim. v
What is claimed as new is:--
A sanitary lining for garbage cans, comrising a. body of water-proof paper conorming to the shape of the can and adapted for insertion thereinto and having a rena cord mounted within the reinforced edge and adapted to be tied around the outer edge of the can for the purpose set forth. 10v
In testimony whereof I have-affixed my signature.
' ISABEL SCHWARTZ.
