CANOPY FOB ELECTRIC OUTLET BOXES.
Application filed May-23, 1922. Serial No. 553,133'.
To all 207mm may concern.'
' Be it known that I, CLAUDE E. Boivnns, a citizen oi.l the United States, residing.;` at Los Angeles., in the county of Los iangeles and State oli California, have invented neuT and kusetil improvements inCanopies for Electric Outlet Boxes, of 1vvhich the foiloi'r,- n is a specification. y L
lily inventionrelates to canopies for elecn tric outlet or connection bones, ana is particularly adapted to cover the outlet box as well as the unsightly rough edges of the plastcrinir oli e building in Vwhich the box: is embedded, and to form a support for the pipe connected to the light :Fixture Canopies of this type usuallyY consist oi' porcelain castings which are both heavy, brittle and expensive, and have formed therein a rectangular or hexagonal socket to receive the nut oi' the 'fixture pipe, Which is an essential part of their construction.
lt is the purpose of my present inven tion to construct a canopy of pressed sheet metal, which Will embody all of the fea'- tures of canopies of the type above -nentioned, and which Will be inexpensive, durable, light and ornamental.
@ther objects of my invention will be more 'fully disclosed in the folloivinggj specification, reference being' had to the several figures of the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a section through a canopyrportion of 'the body member.
Another member 9 is provided, which is also formed of pressed sheet metal, coniprising the annular disc l() having pressed therein the centrally disposed socket 1i. of hexagonal `or rect-angular vconfigura-tion, and the circular tube 12,01 the same diameter asthe tube 7, to form the ,aperture` 13.
The member 9 is adapted to be located inside the member With the edges of the .tubular members 7 and 12 registering and the annular disc 'lil resting;- against the inner surface oi'f'the body member il and spot Welded or otherwise?secured thereto at 1 4-, to form an integral canopy unit provided. With the usual rectangular or hexagonal socket for the reception oi the iiature pipe securing; unit.
The body member apertures 15 iorthe ing screws 16 which 5 is provided with the reception of the securpass therethrough, and are threaded in the usual manner into the tapped holes in the internal lues 1.7 oit' the usual connection box manner in the build-.ingr ceiling or Wall.
By the above recited construction it ivill be seen that the fixture supportingi` pipe 19, shown in dotted li es, may be readily inserted into the apertures 6 and 13 and the nut 20, also shoivn in dotted lines. threaded thereto, and adapted to rest in and to be held from turning in the socket il., thus provid-- ino: an eiiicient, durable, and. inexpensive canopy, which may be suitably enameled,
painted or otherwise decorated to present pleasing" and ornamental appearance.
What I claim is: p
l. An article ot manufacture, comprising a canopyinember formed of pressed sheet metal provided with a centrally disposed aperture` and a disc member :iisolormed ot sheet metal provided with a nut 'receiving' socket and an aperture communicai-tingr therewith adapted to resister Witl. the aporture in the canopy member, said nut receivingv socket adapted to receive the nut on the end of fixture pipe to prevent a turning` movement ot' saine when mounted therein, said members beine'V secured. together to form an integral unit.
2. Au article of manufacture, comprising; a canopy member formed of pressed sheet metal provided with a centrally disposed inturned tubular projection to 'form an aperture, and a disc member also Formed of pressed `sheet metal having pressed therein a nut receiving* socket and a tubular e" tension ladapted to register with the tubular projection in theV canopy member, said members being secured together to forni an integral unit, said nut receiving,r socket preventing a turning movement otfa. fixture pipe having a nut on one end when inserted thereinw 3. The combination with an electric lixture pipe having a nut on one endthereot, Vof a canopy member formed of sheet metal prosecured in the usual reo vided with a centrally disposed apeitme for* the fixture pipe, and z1- dise member ele@ formed of :sheey metal having' formed there in a mit receiving.;v eocke; and n tubular etieneioio adapted to register with the aperture formed in said Canopy member, the nut receiving socket preventing a turning movement of the ixtuie pipe when mounted theieiii, both of Said members being: secured together to form sin integral unit. l0 n Witness that I claim the foregoing have hereunto subseribed my nume 'this 25th day of Apri, 1922.
