. W. CHERNOFF CONTAINER Filed Dec. 13. 1922 Patented Ang. 7, i923.
'TQNTAINEEEc .applicativa fumi recenter is, 192e. aerial no. ccawa.
Francisco, county of San Francisco, and i State oi California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Containers, oi which `the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
vllfly invention relates .to containers and .rel fers particularly to containers suitable lfor 'the carrying of powder compacts and other toilet preparations and articles.
The many advantages incident 'to the ein- 'g ployment of face powder compacts over the use'of the loose powder has led to a general adoption of the ormer, and the desirability of a evident.
The 'object of my invention is a device, or
container, capable 'of receiving and retaininga plurality of compacts, with proper com-A partments for a number of otheriarticles, the whole being in a compact, simple and efficient form and size.
One feature of the container of my in vention is an inter-member between the two casin s, which is of such construction that it Y may e utilized as a means for carrying a' variety of articles, such as cigarettes, yhair pins, pins, nail sticks or anyother desirable articles of small size.
The advantages oi? such a container will be evident upon a consideration. lft con-- tains not only a large white compact, a small rouge compact, an eyebrow pencil and a lip stick, but has' properly divided and devised compartments for' theother articles mentioned and to which reference has been made.
In a broad waythe device of my invene tion comprises two casings to the inner face of which a plurality of toilet articles are aiiixcd, and an inter-member having compartments for other articles as mentioned In the particular form of the device of my invention, shown in the accompanying draw.-A ngs, similar parts are' designated by similar numerals.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my device in closed position.
Fig'urel is a top plan view oFigure 1 in open position, partly broken away for purposes of clearer description.
Figure 3 1s a cross-section through the line l3--3 of Figure 2.'
convenient package, or container, is-` Figure 4 is a cross-section through the line 4-4 of Figure 'Figure 5 1s a, croeseection through the y casings l0 and 11, the hinge inembma` l2, l2
of the casing i0 and the hinge members 13, 13 of the casing ll forming a hinge agement between the two casings by means of the pin 14. Pivotally atached at l5., lli to -the pin 14 is a' cigarette holder, or intermember, composed oi the .two eide iinted walls 16 16 which are so formed as to-.pro-
duce a. plurality of vertical compartments which are shown as connecting, but vwhich may be entirely separate from each other desired. A cover i7 capable of cloeingthe cigarette compartments is pivotally attached to the cigarette holder at 18 and maintained in a normally closed position by means oi? the spring i9. Each compartment is capable of holding a cigarette 20, or other desired commodity orarticle.
o A powder compact -capable of receiving; and retaining a lip stick or eyebrow pencil 27.
The two casings 10 and ll are liel'd in closed position by means of the depressible spring lock 28 having the releasing member 29 projecting through an opening in the Qlis ixedly attached 'to the interior face o the easing; llland a casing 10, the pin 30 of the casing; il being capable of placement through. the opening 31 of the lock member 28 maintaining the casin incloscd osition the inward move-'- ment offthe releasing-rimemher, 29 allowing thexcontainer to be opened.
A consideration of the above shows that the container of my invention, as described, is capable of carrying two aicedpowder compacts, an aiiixed mirror, two removable toilet sticks, two removable powder pulls,
and a plurality of compartments for a. large y ica as shown and described, as 'these are given' simpy as a means for the clear description of the device of my invention.
