Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN VF. BACH- LER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city andcounty of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Steam and lVater Boiler, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a novel construction of a steam and water boiler embodying a water jacket, a series of U-shaped water-receiving tubes in the body ,of the boiler communicating with said jacket, a' central fuel magazine, a fuel inlet in the dome of said body, a fuel directing chute connected with said dome and extending inclined from said inlet to said magazine, means for connecting said chute with said 'magazine, a closure for said magazine mounted'on the top thereof, and a baflie plate in the body around the-upper. end of said magazine connected therewith, said tubes being below said baflie plate whereby the heat acts on the vertical portions of-said tubes and the lateral bends thereof before escaping into the dome,;while the central magazine issupported in ,the body by a collar on said fuel chute, said magazine supporting also the closure therefor and the baffle plate.
To the above ends my invention consists of a novel construction of asteam and water boiler wherein the maximum available space within the water jacket is occupied by water tubes collocated in a novel manner which are efficiently subjected to the-products of combustion, said boiler being adapted to be used as a magazine feed or as a base burner, provision being further 'made for any of the boiler tubes to be readily accessible according to requirements, at all times v :for :the purpose of inspection, replacement orrepair. For the purpose of illustrating y ini vention,-I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form-thereof which is at present preferred byine, since the same will be found to give satisfactory and reliableresults, althoughit is'to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my inventionconsistsrcan be variously arranged and organized and that my invention isnot limited to the precise arrangementv and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.

1 designates the body of steam and water boiler, the same having a base 2 of any suitable construction, which carries the grate 3 of any conventional type On the base 2 is supported the annularwater acket A, which compr ses the outer shell 5 and the inner shell 6, said shells being suitably supported upon the annular base flange 7, and secured thereto by rivets, bolts or other fastening devices 8. The-upper portion ofthe water jacket formed by the shells 5 and 6 is closed by the upper ring 9, which is secured to the shells 5 and 6 by the fastening bolts 10 which pass through said shells and ring and so is firmly held in position. Upon the upper portion of said ring or water jacket, I 10- cate the dome 11,which is secured in place by the stud bolts 12 which may .be two or the removal of the nuts from the bolts 12 the dome can be readily lifted from the top of the boiler for the purpose of obtaining ac cess to the interior. The upper portion of the dome is provided with a neck or chamber 13, having the door 14 leading thereinto, aid chamber having a flue or outlet 15 for the exit of the products of combustion.

21 and 26 designate a series of circulating or U tubes which are expanded at their upper and lower ends 22 and 23 into said inner shell 6, it being noted that directly opposite to the ends 22 and 23 of said tubes the plugs or closures 24 and 25 respectively are located in the outer-shell 5, wherebyaccess can be readily had to the end of any desired tube at the outer shell when the respective plugs are removed. 2
It will be apparent that the 'long tJ-shaped tubes 21-project inwardly and extend longitudinally for a great portion of their length in close proximityto the magazine 18, their lower ends 23 entering the water acket: 4 at a point near the lower portion of the combustion chamber '30, while their upper ends 22' enter the inner shell 6' at a point in proximity" to the water line,so that a rapid and effective circulation will be at all times maintainedwithin the boiler.
It will be seen from Figure 2 that when 'the long tubes 21 are in position there is a considerable space or area between them which is ordinarily not utilized, but in my present invention, bythe employment of the intervening shorter-U-tubes 26, I utilize this space or-area so that the long and short tubes 21 and "26 are arranged in staggered -order so as: to-substantially fill the upper portion of the combustion chamber 30 whereby a very considerable tubular area is subjected to the action of the heat units and products of-con'ib-ustion'so that practically the entire area within the water jacket L l is occupiedhy the st 'ered tubes 21' and 26 which are effectively s iibjected to the efiect 6f the products oiro-mbustion.
