NIGHT LAMP.'
Application filed March 10, 1922. Serial No. 542,657. f
To all 'whom t may concern.' v y Be it known that I, EDGAR L.` TRENTE- sEAU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the Vcounty of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new 1 and useful Improvements in Night Lamps; andI do hereby declare` the following to be a full, clear, and yexact description of the invention, such as will ,enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame.
This invention relates to lamps and more particularly to the type of lamps utilizing liquid fuel and embodying a fount and' `a burner connected to the fount by means of a tube.
Other objectsand advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various chan es in the form, proportion and minor detai s: of construction 'may be resorted yto without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the yaccompanying drawings forming a part of the application,
Figure 1nis a side view of a lamp embodyin the invention,
igure 2 is a front view of the fountfor reservoir, the burner being omitted and the tube being in section, and
Figure 3 is an enlarged section of the burner.
Corresponding and like parts are referred' to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The numeral 1 designates the fount, reservoir or container for holding the oil and while the same may be of any construction and design, it is preferred to have the same representa torch which is symbolical or'` cheer, hope and light. The rear side of the fount 1 is at, as indicated most clearly in Figure 1, so as to lie close against a wall or analogous support. The base of the fount is likewise fiat to admit of supporting the same upon a table or like part. An eye 2, at the upper-.end of the fount V1, provides means for suspending theilam'p froma nail or like part driven into a wall or othervsuplport. VThe, filling opening,l which is at the` top ofthe fount 1, is closed by meansv of a j plug 3 inwhi'ch'` is formed `a vent opening. The fount may be constructed of' any desired material. V l
A tube 4 leads from a side of the fount adjacent the bottom thereof and extends laterally a short distance, thence vertically, its upper end being threaded as indicated at 5. The horizontal portion of the tube Llis disposed so as to touch the table or like support upon which the lamp may be placed. This is indicated most' clearlyrrin Figure 1. A. wick 6 fills they tube 4 and is of a length' to enter the fount and to project slightly beyond the upper` endof the' tube 4'.
The burner comprises a tube 7 ,disk 8 'and' shade holder 9,'saidparts beingconnected in any preferred way. The tube7 visthreaded to receive and match they threadedportion 5 ofthe tube 4.' Rotation of the burner upon the tube 4 covers oruncovers th'e'projecting end ofthe wick 6, whereby thelight may be regulated or extinguished. A` shade 10, of any design, is itted to the holder 9 and protects the light and increases the draft so as to prevent smoking in a lmanner well understood. As indicated most clearly in Figure 1, the burner terminates about in line with the topf of the fount 1,- although this is not necessary. i l
It is observed that the tube 4: contains a single bend only. This facilitates the insov troduction `of the wick when passing the same through the tube, when priming the lamp for service. It is `further noted that the wick may be adjusted with easewhen required so that a portion may project beyond the tip of the tube vadjacent the burner, whereby provision is had for regulating the light as required. As the tube 4 communicates with thebottom of the fount 1, `the consumption of the entire supplyv of oil in the fount is assured.
What is claimed'i's: l v
1. In a lampv of the character specified, a tube having its upper end portion `exter-l nally screw' threaded, a wick within the tube, and ajburner comprising a threaded:
tube mounted upon the threaded end of the 1 i n Wick tube and `adjustable' thereon for regulating the light or extinguishing the same.
2. A lamp of the character specified comprising a. tube having its upper end portion 5 externally screwthreaded, e Wick Within the tube, and a burner comprising a, disk, a
shade holder and a, threaded tube and mounted upon the threaded portion of the Wick tube and adjustable thereon for regu lating or extinguishing the light.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature in presence of two Witnesses. EDGAR L. TRENTESEAU. Witnesses:
