To all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, EDWARD E. NELDNER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of. Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee ,and State of Wisconsimhave invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Internal-Combustion Engines; and I. do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof. My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in connection with internal combustion engines, and more particularly to the mechanism by means of which the reciprocating .motion of the pistons is trans-= mitted and converted into the rotarymotion of the power shaft.
In engines of the more common type, wherein the piston rod is connectedvdlrectly to the crank shaft,'the pistonvrod is comparatively short with respect to the throwof the crank shaft and the resultingside thrust on the piston results in excessive and unequal wear on thesame, thus materially, lessening the life ofthe engine.
It is the primary object of my invention to construct, a practical and efiicient engine wherein the impulses of, the pistons" are transmitted through the piston rod in a A comparatively straight line to theends o-f-a walking beam which carries a yoke which,
has a slot receiving the'wrist pin and transmitting motion through the same-to the power shaft.
A more speclfic object of theinvention is to provide improved means for guiding the j wrist pin in the yoke, whereby GXCBSSlVB wear on the latter will be effectively prevented.
With the above and other objects in view, which will be apparent from the following description, the invention consists in certain structural details which will be specifically described in connection with the accompanying drawings, and subsequently claimed.

For the purpose of guiding the wrist pin head, therefore, I have provided a pair of fiat blocks 21 and 22 embracing the'shaft 7 and held in the slot 16 by means of a pairv of symmetrical arms 23 and 24 which are journalled on the shaft 11 by-means of a split bearing 25, and are resiliently held together by means of the spring devices 26; In passing, therefore, from the position shown in Figure 2 to the position shownflin 1' Figure 3, the wrist pin head will straddle the block 21, the head being cutaway at 27 to permit the vready engagement therewith as the wrist pin continues to travel in its circular path about the shaft 7 its head will ride aeros'sthefslot 1'6, being guided by the block 21'which "is forced outwardly from the shaft 7 in opposition to the spring device In completing its revolution, the wrist *pln will pass upwardly'on the other side of the shaft 7 and will be guided across the slot by the guide 22, the opposite corner of the head being cut away, as shown at 28, to permit the ready engagement with the block.
