teases FPIQ EDUCATIONAL AND AMUSEMENT TOY.
Application filed April is, 1922. Serial no. 555,017.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Crrnnnns SCI-IWARZ, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Educational and Amusement Toy, of which th following is a specification. v
Thisinvention relates to an educational and amusement toy. Its object is the production of a toy by which various games and educational methods may be enjoyed, to maintain and attract the attention. of the user. A second object of the invention is production of a toy that can easily be adjusted to be used for different purposes without intricate adjustments and parts. Other objects will be apparent from the description and claims.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 represents a top plan View of an exemplification of the toy and Fig. 2 shows a section of Fig. 1 on the line 2, 2.
A circular supporting platform 20 is shown with the upper face 21 and the lower face 22. An annular flange 23 is formed with the platform and it has the opening 24. A ournal bearing 28 with the axial opening 29 and the tapered seat 80 at its upper end is located in the opening 24, and fastened to the platform 20. A pivot 32 is indicated with the lower tapered bearing end 33, and the upper tapered bearing portion 34, having the flange 35 extending therfrom. A rotatable indicating disc 38 is supported upon and fastened to the flange 35. An arrow shaped indicator 39 with the pointer 40 is supported on the disc 38. An operating knob 41 is shouldered at 42, from which extends the threaded shank 43. The shank 48 extends through the indicating disc 38 and is in threaded engagement with the portion 34 of the pivot 32. To the lower face 22 of the disc 20 is pivoted the supporting disc 45, by means of the pivot screw 46 and which constitutes a support for the bearing end 83. Legs 48 extend from the lower face of the platform 20.
A disc 50, with the axial opening 51 is detachably supported upon the upper face 21 of the platform 20. Upon one or both faces of the disc 50 may be indicated letters, words, numbers, pictures, legends and the like. The face 21 of the support 20 may also have indicated thereon similar characters.
It is to be understood that the characters and the like shown on the faces of the disc 50 and the platform 20 are for difierent games or purposes. Again a plurality of discs like 50 may be provided.
In the present exemplification the disc 50 is divided by the radial lines 53 'and the circles 54' and 5 5 into a plurality of outer spaces 58 and a plurality of inner spaces 59. The letters of the alphabet are indicated in the outer spaces 58 and numerals are shown in the inner spaces 59. "The numeral 1 is indicated opposite the letter A, the numeral 2 is opposite the letter B and the numeral 3 is indicated opposite the letter C and sooner or make a less number of revolutions after being started, the supporting disc 45 isswung from under the bearing end 33, and the tapered portion 34 is seated on the tapered seat 30. Thereby the increased friction between the seat 30 and portion 84, over the friction between the bearing end 33 and the supporting disc 45, will reduce the number of turns of the disc 38, with the same effort applied to the operating knob 41.
Various modifications may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit thereof and the present exemplification is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim 1s:
1. In porting platform, a disc with indications thereon detachably supported on the plat form, a rotatable indicating disc journaled to the platform, a pointer on the latter disc and means to vary the speed of rotation of the rotatable indicating disc.
2. In a toy the combination of a supporting platform with indications on its upper face, a rotatable indicating disc journaled to the platform, a pointer on the latter disc and means to vary the speed of rotation of the rotatable disc.
a toy the combination of a sup-,
3. In a toy the combination of a supporting plaform with indications on its upper face, a journal bearing having an axial opening and a tapered seat at its upper end fastened to the supporting platforin in the axial centre thereof, a pivot with atapered lower bearing end and an upper tapered bearing portion journaled in said bearing, a rotatable indicating disc with a pointer fastened to the pivot and a supporting disc pivoted to the lower face of the, platform normally supporting the end of the tapered lower bearing end of said pivot, said upper tapered bearing portion of the pivot bearing upon the tapered seat of said journal bearing when said supporting disc is Y swung from under the said pivot.
I 45., In a toy the combination of a supporting platform with indications on its upper face, a plurality of discs with indications adapted to be supported one at a time upon the platform, a journal bearing having an axial opening and a tapered seat at its up- .per end extending from the axial centre of the supporting platform, a pivot with a lower bearing end and an upper tapered bearing portion journaled in said bearing, a rotatable disc with a pointer fastened to the pivot and adjustable means connected to the platform to normally support the lower bearing end of said pivot, said upper tapered bearing portion of the pivot bearing upon the tapered seat of said journal bearing when said adjustable means is located clear of said pivot.
5. In a toy the combination of a supporting platform, a disc with a plurality of letters indicated thereon and a plurality of numerals indicated thereon detachably supported on the platform, the letters and numerals indicated in pairs and each pair indicated in the same radial line of the detachable disc, a rotatable indicating disc journaled to the platform, a pointer for the latter disc, an operating knob for thelatter disc and means to vary the speed of rotation ofthe indicating disc.
. Signed at Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, this 8th day of April, A. D. 1922.
CHARLES SOHWARZ.
