TOILET oAsn.
Applicationfled June .20, 1921. Serial No. 479,093.
T o; @ZZ whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, EILEEN M. KLEBBA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis,y in the county kor Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have `invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet Cases, of which the following is a specification. Y I
My invention relates to toilet cases, and an object is to lprovide a case of this kind which is particularly adaptedforuse when traveling. An obj ect in particular is to provide a toilet case which will beof light weight and small Vsize so that it may be readily carried, and which'is so yconstructed and yarranged that itwill .hold in compact form the various toilet articles and accessories which are considered necessary by every womanfwho wishes to present a wellkept appearance even when traveling, and the customary conveniences and materials kept in the home are not at vthat time generally available. `Anot-helobject is to provide ya deviceof .this character having trays and compartments `therein so -disposed that the varioustoilet yarticles may be removed and used oneor more at a time as desired and restored to their .proper iplaces without d-isturbingthe position of such articles as are not being used at that particulartime. Another Objectis to provide Va mirror which requires no additional space and which may readily beheld inconvenient position for use whenever desired. y
The full yobjects and advantages of my invention will "appear infconnection with ythe detailed description, and the'novel'features embodied in my inventive idea will beparticularly pointed out inthe claims.
. :In fthe accompanying drawings which` illustrate one-of the embodiments which my invention vmay assume, Fig. l is Ia view of the top side of 4my case in-its-closed condition. Fig. 2 is an :end elevational view of the case. Fig. 3 is a side elevational view.
Fig. 4 is a plan view with ythe upper tray inplaceand thel cover .-removed. .Fig. 5 is a plan view *with the `coverkand upper tray removed and the lower tray iii-place. Fig.
6 ,is `a view in sectionon the line l6 6 of Fig. Fig. 7 is raview, in section -on the line 7- 7 OfFi'g. Fia-8 s a View ses tion von the line 8-8 of Fig. 3. 'v Fig. 9is fa front elevational view with the* cover removed` from its customary position andsset up for use asamirror.
As shown 'in the -drawings,l` provide'a boXlike structure having a rear end wallv 10,
a bottom wall 12, two side walls'14'fand 16 anda cover 18. As shownthe cover is-*a sliding cover and has tongues 20on its oppositeasides adapted,y to `slide in 4grooves 22 in the side walls and it has' a tongue :24 Aon its rear end adapted toitintoya groove-in the rear wall of the box. The coveris pro-y vided with a depression 26 vin vits-upper surface and a mirror l28 is securedto its lower surface. The` sidewalls 14 and 16 attheir upper .portions and near their rearendsare provided with inclined' grooves, 30` so that when the cover is removed it may` be 'sup-v ported iny substantially upright position vas shown inF ig. 9 by sliding the tongues 20into the ygrooves 30. The two grooves 30.*are Y preferably inclined somewhat as .shown in Fig. y6 `so that the cover isyssupporte'd fina slightly inclined rearward position in order that the mirror 28 carried 'thereby may be u most conveniently positimedv for` use. coverwhen slid into place to close the boX is held by a spring pressed pin `52 'adapted to engage a recess in one edgeof the cover. @ne ofthe sides-of the box such as the wall member i4 isvprovided with a handle 34f`by meansof which the vcase `may be;;convenient-ly carried. The frontedgeofthe cover is I.provided'with aj dependingi'lange 36or acipurpose which will presently appear. The lbot-` tom of the boX, as best shown in Fig. `5, is provided with' a stationary lower tray having a front wall 38. The bottom off this tray is formed by the bot-tom of 'the box while-the side wal'lsvand rear wall of the tray are formed by the side walls andrea-r wall .of the box. Thistray vis providedrwith l, partition walls 40, 42, 44, 46, 48 .ra-nvd50 which divide `the tray into compartmentsf52, k54,
56, 5S, 60 and 62. Thecompartment -52v partment `56 is adapted to .receive a wash The ico
cloth. The compartment-58 is adapted-to f comb carried in thev lOWeI tray Upon pun the lower tray as shown in Fig. 4. This upper tray does not extend'over the compartments 52 and54 since the comb and brush contained therein are ordinarily higher than the lower tray. The upper tray is provided with a bottom 68, a rear wall 70, a side wall 72, and an opposite sidewall consisting of the two offset portions 74 and 76 adapted to lie directly above the partitions 42/and 44,
respectively, of the lower tray. The upper tray is also provided with a front wally 78 which is extended downwardly as best shown in Fig.` 6 so thatits lower end is flush with the bottom of the case. This wall member, therefore, constitutes the front 4of the case,
vandpwhen the upper tray is pulled partway out, it constitutes ya foot member for supporting the front end of `this tray. The `upper end of the wall 78 is cut away on its front edge as indicated at 79 to receive the flange 36 previously referred to as depending from the cover andk which holds the uppertray in the box when the cover is in its closed position. The upper tray is provided with partitions 80, 82, 84, and 86 which divide it into compartments 88, 90, yaz, 94 andes.-
The compartment 88. is adapted to receive j ars of nail'polish, rouge, and the like. The compartment 90 is adapted to receive a manicure outfit. The compartments 92 and 94 are adapted to receive tubes' of tooth paste and cold -cream, and the compartment 96 is adapted to receive hairpins, small scissors, and other small toilet articles. In order to guide the upper tray in its sliding movement, a post 98 is shown secured to the partitions 48, and 44 attheir intersection, and extending'slightly above' the lower tray. As shown in the drawings, the top, bottom and rear of the sides 14 and 16 are provided with Houtstanding Hanges and the ends of the wall member 78 are also provided with similar anges whereby the sides 14 and 16 are given a paneled appearance.
' The operation and advantages of my invention will be apparent from the foregoing description. Upon removing the cover the various articles in the upper tray are at once available for use as arel also the brush and ing the upper tray forwardly, the remainder of the articles in the lower tray are rendered readily accessible. It is not necessary to entirely' remove the upper tray but its rear end may be left supported by the front end of the lower tray and the foot member 78 will form a support for the front end of the upper tray vas will be understood by refer-y ence to Fig. 6. On account vof the mirror being secured on the underside of the cover, it requires no additional space `and when the cover is held as shown in Fig. 9, the mirror is positioned for convenient use., Itis apparent that since the cover carrying the attached mirror is detachable, it may. be held in the yhand and used asa back mirror. in use may be placed on a table or similar support or may be held in .the lap. When the devicel is to be carried or stored, the'up per tray is slid into place and upon replacing It is obvious that the case when the cover the latter is held in place by the spring-pressed pin 32 while the flange 361011 the cover holds the slidable tray in place. The walls of the box portion may be made lof;l any suitable material and the trays with their partitions are made of'lightmaterial such as enameled wood or aluminum.

A toilet case comprising a box, a yslidingv cover for said box havin tongues adapted to slide in'grooves exten ing` along the upper sidesv of said box, anda mirror secured on the inner side ofvsaid cover, the sides of said box having upwardly extend-- ing grooves adapted to receive said. tongues for h oldmg said cover with its mirror positioned for use. v f
2. A toilet case comprising a box, a stationary tray provided .with 'compartments in the bottom of said box, anda slidable tray :provided with compartments and w adapted to slide oversaid stationary tray,
vsaid slidable tray being 'narrower than saidv stationary tray. whereby some' of the compartments of the latter extend the full height of thecase. f v
3. A' toilet case comprising afbox,.a"sta tionary. tray 'having compartments fin the bottom 'of said box,two of said .confipart-V ments being shaped to receive a comb anda rup for brush, and aV slidable tray provided with compartments and adaptedto slide over'said stationary tray, said slidable tray being shaped in such manner as tol leave said brush and comb compartments uncovered.
4. Av toilet case comprising-'a box,"a stationary trayV provided with compartments in the bottom of said "box, a slidable tray to slide over said stationary tray and a i 5. A toilet .case comprising'abox, aco'ver,"
