To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS MAUERHOFER, a native of Switzerland, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Varnish Composition, of which the following is a specification sufficient to enable those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains to utilize the same.
The object of my invention is the production of a varnish capable of general use, but designed more particularly as a polish and protection for metallic surfaces, in that it prevents oxidization and corrosion To this end, my invention consists of a composition of matter containing the following ingredients in approximately or substantially the relative proportions specified in the formula herein contained, namely,

parts maybe varied somewhat according to special requirements without departing from the spirit and intent of my invention in this respect.
With this understanding, I will state that the following formula is that preferred for general use, to wit About seventy-five (75%) per cent of coal tar, eighteen (18%) per cent of benzine, and seven (7%) per cent of nitric acid.
