Figure 5 is a det-ail view showing the mounting of the clamping rods:
Figure 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of Figure 5;
Figure 7 is a detail view of a solid triangle 5a; A
Figure 8 is a detail perspective View of a U-shaped triangle 5b; l

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the base of the book holder, which may be constructed either of wood, metal or any other suitable material or composition of materials, and may be made any suitable proportions. The base is provided with feet 2, which may be constructed of rubber or any other suitable material, to hold the base spaced from a stationary support on which it rests.
Hingedly or otherwise connected to the base as at 3 is a main book support 4, which may be disposed in various inclined positions, and supported in such positions by means of a triangle or brace 5. Fastened to the back of the main support 4 by means of rivets, screws or the like 6 is a bracket plate 7, in bearings of the ears 8 of which a suitable headed pin 9 is mounted. The triangle or brace 5 is constructed of suitable metal, either cast, or sheet metal, or may be made of wood, or any other suitable material, and at one corner, the triangle or brace is provided with a sleeve 10, through which the headed pin 9 engages, thereby pivotally mounting the triangle or brace upon the rear face of the main support 4.
`When the book holder is made of metal or other suitable material, ears 8a may be stamped out of the main book support 4 and the side leaves 14, thereby eliminating the necessity of rivets or screws, which are utilized for holding the bracket plates 7 to the support. Obviously it is unneccessary to construct the angles 5 and 16 with sleeves 10, for they can be made solid or U-shaped as shown in Figures 7 and 8. These angles are designated by the numerals 5a and 5b, the consequence being a triangle, regardless of the manner of construction.
Obviously by tilting` this triangle in any one of three different positions, the main book support 4 may be supported upon different inclinations, such as shown in Figuies 1, 2 and 3.
A suitable ledge or shelf 11, constructed of sheet metal or any other suitable material is suitably secured to the lower edge 12 of the main book support 4, thereby preventing the book from movement downwardly.
Secured upon the forward face of the main book support 4 and arranged centrally thereof is a strip 13 of any suitable Inaterial, to the longitudinal edges of which the side leaves 14 of the book holder are hingedly mounted as at 15. lVhen the strip 13 and the side leaves 14 are constructed of metal or other suitable material, the
leaves 14 may be hinged in any other man-l ner, or to a different partof the book holder, so as to serve the saine purpose. The side leaves 14 are provided for the purpose of supporting the back portions of the book upon different inclinations, when the book4 is open, as will be clearly seen in Figures 1 and 4.
Pivotally mounted on the rear faces of the side leaves 14 are additional triangles or braces 16. These triangles or braces are similar to the triangle or brace 5, and are mounted upon the side leaves in a similar manner, and may also be disposed in various positions, to hold the side leaves in different inclined positions, that is to say relatively to the main book support 4.
The adjacent faces of the lower part of the strip 13 and the main book support are chambered out to provide a cavity 17, for the reception of coil springs 18, which are constructed from a single length of spring wire, or may be made of two pieces of wire, considering` the cost and convenience in the construction. Suitable book clamps or clamping rods 19 are pivotally mounted in the ledge or shelf 11, and their lower portions have right angle arms, which extend through the cavity, and upon which' the coil springs are mounted. The remote ends of the coil springs are connected to the lower lateral arms of the clamping rods, so as to tension the rods for the purpose of causing their arms' 21 to bear upon the leaves of the book, thereby not only holding the leaves down, but also holding the back portions of the book upon the side leaves 14 of the book holder.
It will be noted that the side leaves 14 of the book holder may be disposed in various positions, whereas the main support 4 may likewise be 'disposed in various positions by means of similar braces or triangles.
From the foregoing itis obvious that there has been devised a very simple, eflicient and practical book holder, which can be cheaply ymade and sold reasonably, and which may be used for supporting books on tables, or supporting books for reading purposes, preferably the latter. In fact the holder may be used in the pulpit, and serve as a very useful purpose for supporting the Bible, and also for supporting heavy ledgers, cash books, journals, vabstracts books, tax record books, etc. In the latter case, the book holder may be increased in size.
The invention' having been set forth, what is claimed is l. A book holder, comprising a base, a main book support hingedly mounted upon the base upon one edge thereof, and a triangular loop member having a transversely disposed hinge pin extending in a direction transversely of and mounted in bearings of the rear face of the main book support,
whereby the triangular member may bev swung rearwardly to assume different posi` tions on the base, to support the main book support in various inclined positions, side leaves hingedly mounted upon the front face of the main book support, and provided with means on their rear vfaces to cooperate with the main book suport, for holding the side leaves in dierent inclined positions relatively to the main book support.v f
3. A book holder, comprising a base, a
main book holder hingedly mounted theref on adjacent one edge thereof, means carried by the rear lface of the main'book Support and cooperating with the base, for holdingk the main book support in different inclined positions, side leaves hingedly mounted upon the front lface lof the main booky support,-
for the purpose of supporting the back portions of the bookwhen in open l"position, triangular members or braces having hinge pins extending in parallel directions with the length of the side leaves and mounted in bearings thereof, whereby said triangularmembers or braces may be swung laterally to the leaves to assume different positions on the main book support,to hold' the leaves in `various inclined positions. 4
4:. A book holder, comprising a'base, a f
book support hingedly mounted on one edge of the base and provided on its rearface with a horizontal pivot, a triangularmembei' mounted on said pivot and adapted to assume three different positions, one face and one corner ofthe triangleiengaging the rear face of tbesupport and said base, one
face ofthe triangle to engage the base, lor the twov faces which extend from thev pivot of the triangle'to engage the support and the base.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
