MARK P. HARVEY, OF LITTLE RIVER, FLORIDA.
CLIP.
Application filed July 11, 1922. Serial No. 574,138.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARK P. HARVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Little River, in the county of Dado and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Clip, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paper clips or binders, the primary object of the invention being to provide a clip or binder of a novel construction wherein the ends of the wire, forming the clip, will be guarded to eliminate any possibility of the clip tearing or scratching the article on which the same is positioned.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clip of this character which will have exceptional gripping qualities, to insure against the articles held thereby, becoming displaced.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a clip which may be secured to papers, at an angle with respect to the upper edge thereof, to permit the sheets of paper to be laid out of the way and eliminate any possibility of the sheets pulling the clip from the papers.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a paper clip constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of one edge of the clip.
Figure 3 is a view showing the clip as applied.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the clip embodies a length of wire constructed to provide opposed sections 5 and 6, each section including a relatively long arm 7 and a relatively short arm 8, the arms of. the sections 6 being connected by a curved portion 9, while the lower end of the arm 8 of the section 5 extends inwardly at right angles as at 10 where the same merges into the arm 7, as clearly shown by Figure 1 of the drawing.
The sections 5 and 6 are connected by curved portions 12 and 13, which curved portions lend resiliency to the sections to hold the sections into clamping relation with each other to grip an article therebetween. As shown, portions of the arms of the sections 6 lie in spaced relation with the arms of the section 5 to permit several articles to be positioned between the sections, and at the same time insure suliicient pressure to hold the articles positioned between the sections.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that due to the construction of the clip, the same may be positioned over one corner of a number of sheets to secure the same as clearly shown by Figure 3 of the drawing.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A clip comprising a length of wire formed into opposed connected sections, each of the sections including a relatively long arm and a short arm, said arms adapted to grip an article therebetween, the upper ends of the relatively long arms lying in a line at an oblique angle with respect to a line parallel with the arms. Y
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I h ave hereto aifixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
MARK P. HARVEY.
