MINERS CARBIDE-LAMP HOLDER,
Application filed. September 19, 1921. Serial No. 501,801.
T 0 all 20 hom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD SIDNEY BARN- STABLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nokomis, county of Montgomery, and tate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Miners Carbide-Lamp Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to miners carbide lamp holders and more particularly to an' improved device for holding the lamp in firm and rigid position on the miners cap.
One of the objects of the invention is to obviate the use of the customary hook and at the same time hold the lamp so the loose swinging motion of the lamp will not occur.
Other objects of the invention will appear upon consideration of the following detail description and accompanying drawings in which like reference numerals indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved holder.
Fig. 2 is an'edge elevation of the same. 1 Fig. 3 is a back view.
Fig. 4 is a top edge view.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a lamp illustrating the objectionable hook. v
Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a similar lamp with the hook displaced and showing the I lamp attached to my improved holder.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the cap shield or plate.
Fig. 8 is a similar view showing the holder attached to the cap shield or plate.
Referring to the drawings by numerals,
the lamp 10 is of the conventional type usually equipped with a hook 11. In using the present improvement the hook 11. is detached from the lamp and will be discarded. The conventional type of cap shield. or plate 12 is mounted on the miners cap and is This cap shield consists of a plate fixed to the front of the cap and has a lower angular portion 18 conforming to the visor of the cap, and a top flange 14 extending over a portion of the top of the cap. The longitudinal edges of the shield are turned upon themselves to reenforce the shield as shown in Figs. 7 and-8.
The holder consists of central body plate 16 substantially rectangular inform and less in width than the width of the shield 12 and provided at its upper end with a backwardly extending flange 17 adapted to overlie the top flange 14 of the shield 12.
Two pairs of oppositely extending retaining arms 18 and 19 are integrally formed with the body plate 16 and extend from the edges thereof near the upper and lower ends of the said body plate 16. These retaining arms 18 and 19 are equipped at their ends with spring clips 20 which are adapted to be clipped around the edges of the shield 12.
Itjwill be noted that the shield is provided with a lip at the corner from which the top flange 14 extends thus forming an and are-curved to fit the lamp body .10 and have sufficient resilience to firmly grasp'the lamp. The terminals of the bands 22 are turned outwardly as indicated at 23 to facilitate insertion of the lamp.
l/Vhat I claim is:
1. A miners carbide lamp holder, in combination with a shield fixed to the. miners cap, a body plate having retaining arms adapted to engage the, shield and hold the plate thereto, the said shield having an abutment member engaged with certain of said retaining arms to prevent upward movement of the body plate on the shield. means to prevent downwardmovement of said body plate, and lamp engaging means carried by said body plate.
2. A miners lamp holder, in combination with a shield fixed to the miners cap, and
having a. top flange extending over a portion of. the top of thecap, a body platehaving a flange at one end adapted to overlie said top flange to prevent downward movement of said body plate, retaining arms carried by said body plate and engaged with said shield, means engaged with the uppermost retaining arms to prevent upward. move ment of said body plate, and lamp engaging means carried by said body plate.
3. A miners lamp holder, in combination with a shield fixed to a miners cap, and pro- 5 vided with a top flange and an outwardly projecting abutment member, a body plate having an upper flange adapted to engage 1 ,aeapsa said top flange, upper and lower retaining arms carried by said body plate, the uppermost arms being engaged With said abutment member, and lamp engaging means carried by said body plate.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. EDWARD SIDNEY BARNSTABLE.
