' s.v PENKSA DUPLICATE TAG Filed Nov. 1920 INVENTOR.
Patented May 1, 1923.
()FFI E DUPLICATE TAG.
Application filed November 20,1920. SerialNo. 425,502.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANLEY PENKSA, a
citizen of the United States, residing at from whence it came.
Long Island City, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Duplicate Tags, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shipping tags and has forv its object to provide a pair of duplicate tags and means whereby said tags are held together.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pair of duplicate shipping tags two of the ends of which are fixedly secured together, and the other ends of which are removably held together.
With the above and other objects in view I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improvement in shipping tags,
Figure 2 is another plan view thereof,
Figure 3 is a longitudinal central sectional view thereof, and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the device, certain ends of the tag being shown separated.
It is well known that shipping tags used on packages, boxes, barrels, crates, etc, often become mutilated through rain or which the tag is secured has no identification mark to indicate its destination or Therefore I have designed the tag shown in the accompanying drawings in order that the addresses of both the sender and the party torwhom the package is to be sent may be shown in duplicate; that is, on both of the tags,"so if one becomes mutilated it may be removed and the addresses are still indicated on the other.
A further object of the device is in order that the addresses may be printed on the outer sides of the duplicate tags, and inthe free end of the ot other causes, whereupon the package to fixed together at their small ends 4 by an eyelet 5. To the free end of the tag 3 is fastened an eyelet 6 and an elongated tongue 7 which is adapted tobe bent over the edges 8 and 9 of the tags2 and 3 respectively, whereby saidtags are held together at their-large ends 10 and 11. When it is necessary to examine the inner surface of the tagsthe tongue 7 maybe readily straightened out to permitthe separation of the tags atone end.
Having now described my invention that which I claim is new and desire by Letters Patent is: v
1. A device, as described consisting of a pair of independent tags identical in size and form, an eyelet connecting said tags at one end and an eyelet secured to one of said tags at its free end said last eyelet having an elongated flexible tongue adapted to be bent over the other tag, whereby bothfree ends gether. I
2. A device as described consisting of a pair of identically formed tags, means for 'pivotally connecting said tags atone end and means for detachably connecting the free ends of said .tags, said last means consisting of an eyelet secured to the free end of one tag and having means for engaging er tag. 3. A device as described, consisting of a .pair of tags, an eyelet connecting said tags at one end and an eyelet having a tongue secured to one of said tagsat the other end and adapted to secure the other tag to said an device as described consisting of a pair of identically formed tags, means for pivotally connecting said tags at one end and means for detachably connecting the free ends of said tags, said last means consisting of an eyelet secured to the free end of one tag and having means for engaging the free end of the other tag, said last means to procure of' the'tags'may be held toconsisting of an elongated to-ngueintegral with said eyelet and adapted to engage said other tag, said tongue being bendable over the free edges of both of said tags.
In testimony whereofv I aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
' STANLEY PENKSA.
Witnesses i BENJAMIN BARKER, Crms. RUSSELL.
