WILLAMON F. STATEN, OF JASPER, FLORIDA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS FOR TREATING THE HAIR.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,313, dated December 9, 1873; application filed October 24, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLAMON F. STATEN, of Jasper, Hamilton county, Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medical Compounds for Curling and Frizzing the Hair, of which the following is a specification:
The invention relates to a combination of the medicinal ingredients, alcohol, oil of ricini, oil of lavender, oil of lemon, oil of neroli, oil of rosemary, tincture of musk, and borate of soda, in the proportions and manner hereinafter specified, for the purpose of making a compound by means of which the human hair may be frizzed or curled.
The following is a formula of the invention, though it is obvious that a slight change in the proportion of the ingredients may not materially affect the operation of the mixture:' Alcohol, one (1) dram; oil of ricini, one (1) dram; oil of lavender, six (6) drops; oil of lemon, five (5) drops; oil of neroli, two (2) drops; oil of rosemary, one (1) drop; tincture of musk, one
(1) drop; borate of soda, pulverized, five (5) grams.
The above mixture is ready for use as soon as the parts are well intermingled.
The scalp and hair should be first thoroughly cleansed by being Washed in soap and warm water, when the compound may be applied by rubbing it freely upon the hair.

The compound above described for curling and frizzing the human hair, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing improvements in medical'compounds for curling and frizzing the hair, as above described, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 18th day of October, 1873.
