P. PAIRARD ELECTRIC WIRE CLAMP i Filed June 13 1918 Inventor P. Pa/ 121: am d,

flttorlwy 5 and useful Improvements in Electric-l PIERRE rnrnnnn,
OF FABIS, FRANCE.
ELECTRIC-6U CLAE/I'E.
Application filed June 13,
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PIERRE PAIRARD, a citizen of the French Republic, residing in Paris, France, have invented certain new Wire Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an arrangement for fastening electric wires, characterized in that the conductor undergoes a progressive tightening by means of a cap nut screw on a threaded rod removably mounted on a resilient annular member placed on the insulator.
Fig. l is a side elevation showing one form of the improved attachment in place on the insulator,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged top plan detail with the nut removed,
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the modified form of the nut with secondary clamping means,
Fig. 4 is a respective detail of still another form of the invention,
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional detail of a further modification of the general form shown in Fig. 4, and
Fig. 6 is a side elevational view showing the forms shown in Figs. 4: and 5 applied to an insulator.
Similar characters of reference are em ployed in all of the above described views to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now, more particularly, to the drawings, especially to Figs. 1 to 3, the flexible collar 1 encompasses the trunconic head of an insulator. This collar is formed of a strip of hoop-iron wound over a mold of the same form as the insulators. The ends of this strip are each provided with a notch, and the two tongues 3 thus "formed are bent in the shape of a hook, so as to engage over a rod 4., which has projections 5 at its base and a notch 6. whose lateral walls are planes forming a relatively small angle between them. The rod & is threaded and is provided with screw cap 7, which fastens the conductor 8 progressively and without cutting or shearing it, said conduc- 0 tor 8 being positioned in the notch 6.
In the modification represented in l, 5 and 6 the collar 1 is hooked to a double 1918. Serial No. 239,835.
.torlr 10 having a threaded, non-slotted rod 11. on which is threaded a cross-shaped elemcut 1 the arms of which form attaching v for the conductor 8, positioned against the rod 11. i cap screw 7, screwed on the rod permits or" fastening the conductor 8 between the arms of the cross member 12 and the double forked member 10.
The cap screw of the two arrangements :rnay be extended exteriorly by a threaded rod on which a knurled tightening nut I screwed asshown in Figs. 3
o. arrangement permits of fasten- .aeaus of nut 14, 14', either a connecting w. l etwecn two sections of a line whose ends are attached to two adjacent insulutozs supported by the same post, or a shunt or secondary wire connected to the conductor These arrangements present the following ges: ihe attachment of the conductor, by the ightening or" a nut. is simple and effective, and owing to the V shape mounting, shearing of the wire is prevented since the wire only becomes distorted when the tightening is too great.
The contact between the conductor and the insulator is not such as with generally lrnown insulators, but a large surface in which la section of the insulating material is put under pressure.
Notwithstanding the cost of the collar and of its attaching head, the present invention is a substantial economy by reason of the reduction of installation and maintenance cost.
Having now particularly described and ,rta ned the nature of my said inven 1i and in what manner the same is to be erto declare that what I claim is claim of the character described iniular strap-like body portion I nooks formed at the terminals and adjacent the side edges thereof, the
one terminal extending in a direc- K site to those on the other terminal, a threaded stud the base of which is formed with opposed recesses the opposite side edges of which are embraced by opposed hooks of the body 9 tion and clamping element embracin the stud.
Ill
2. A clamp as claimed in claim 1 wherein a cross-shaped plate having a central aperture and claw terminals is arranged on the stud beneath the clamping element with the claw terminals embracing the hooks on the body portion and the head of the stud.
3. A clamp as claimed in claim 1 wherein the clamping element is in the form of a. closed end nut a secondary stud connected in the outer closed end of the nut and a sec- 10 ondary clamping nut on the secondary nut for the purpose described.
