I Apr. 17, 1923. mszmx DE SOTO E. RICHARDSON IMPLEMENT SUPPORT AND CARRIAGE Filed April 18, 1922 1565023 E. arclso/v,

ATTORNEY.
Patented Apr. 17, 1923.
DE SOTO E. RICHARDSON, OF RIVERSIDE, WASHINGTON.
IMPLENEENT SUPPORT AND CARRIAGE.
Application filed April 18, 1922., Serial No. 555,010.
T all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, DE Soro E. RICHARD- so residingat Riverside, county of Okanogan, and State of \Vashington, citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Implement Supports and Carriages, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention pertains to an implement support and carriage, and relates to a wheeled support and carriage adapted to be used as a mounting for various implements.
An object of this invention isto provide a support and carriage which can be used to mount various types of implements, as for instance wire reeling and unreeling structures, a cultivator, a seeder, and other wheeled implements.
A further object is to so construct the parts that the implements can be readily and quickly mounted on and removed from the carriage without the use of special tools.
A still further object resides in providing a structure by which the various implements are mounted and carried in position for most eflicient use, and the parts of the supportand carriage are disposed in such relation that they will not in any way interfere or obstruct.
l/Vith these and other objects in view, which will be understood from the drawing and description, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will now be set forth.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my implement support and carriage.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device showing the mounting of wire reeling structure.
Fig. 3is a detail.
The axle 1 has carrying wheels 2 and 3 mounted thereon, these wheels being of sufficient diameter to carry the axle well above the ground. This axle can be either square or round in its body portion, and the wheels are retained in place by the cotter-pins l, or
I by :any other suitable means.
The side supporting members 5 and 6 are connected with the axle 1 adjacent its ends and are bent or shaped to provide vertical portions 7 and 8, horizontal portions 9 and 10, and inclined portions 11 and 12. The
inclined portions terminate in handles 13 and 14:.
These side supporting members can be of flat or round bar or of tubular metal; and the purpose in forming these members in the manner set forth is to provide a high support for the implements mounted on the carriage, and'to dispose the handles 13 and 14 at a height to be conveniently held by the party propelling the carriage.
Diagonal braces 15 and 16 are provided between the vertical and horizontal portions of each of the members and the parts are thus given greater strength and rigidity. These braces are so inclined as to nearly line up with the inclined portions 11 and 12, and the pushing force against the axle is thus applied in substantially a direct line from the handles 13 and 14:.
Crossbars 17 and 18 are connected between the side supporting members, preferably at the upper and lower ends of the inclined portions, and these bars hold the side members rigidly to thus present a supporting frame.
A bearing loop 19 is mounted on the forward angle of side member 6 and an open loop 20 having a retainer 21, as better shown in Fig. 3, is similarly mounted on side member 5. Aligned bearing openings 22 and 23 are provided in the inclined portions of the side members and at such other points as may seem desirable.
In the use of my device as illustrated in Fig. 2, I have shown the mounting of wire reeling mechanism. A reel shaft 24 is mounted in bearing loops 19 and 20, and an operating shaft 25 is fitted through the hearing openings 22 and 23. Sprocket wheels 26 and 27 are fixed on shafts 24 and 25, and a sprocket chain 28 is fitted on these wheels. A wire reel 29 is connected to revolve with shaft 24, and an operating handle 30 is provided on shaft 25. With this handle 30 the operator can, while rolling the carriage, revolve the reel to take up wire, rope or the like.
By removing the sprocket chain drive, and retaining the wire reel the device can be used to unreel wire, and it will be apparent that other mechanisms can be fitted. in place] and that the carriage can be used in a number of different connections. lVhen fitting reel or shaft in place one end can be inserted in bearing loop 19 and the shaft is then laid in the open loop 20 to be held by retainer 21, Without the necessity of removing the reel, sprocket, or other parts mounted thereon.
Vhile I have illustrated and described only certain specific construction and manner of use, it will be appreciated that changes and modifications can be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of my inventionin View of which I wish to be limited only to such points as may be set forth in the claims.
I claim 1. An implement support and carriage comprising an axle having carrying wheels mounted thereon, a pair of side supporting members connected with-theaxle adjacent its ends each formed to present vertical portions adj ac'ent the axle with horizontal portions at the top thereof and inclined portions extending from the horizontal portions, said side members terminating in handles, and cross bars connected between the side members. 7
. 2. An implement support and carriage comprising an axle having carrying wheels mounted thereon, a pair of side supporting members connected with the axle adjacent its ends each formed to present vertical por- ,oos
tions adjacent the axle with horizontal portions at the top thereof and inclined portions extending from the horizontal portions, said side members terminating in handles, cross bars connected between the side members, bearings formed in the side members, a bearing loop mounted at the tions extending from the horizontal portions, said side members terminating in handles, cross bars connected between the side members, and diagonal braces connected between the vertical and horizontal portions of each side member to nearly line up with the inclined portion thereof.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature;
DE soro E. RICHARDSON.
