G. A. BYOR REGISTER Filed April 29, 1921 3 Sheets-Sheet 3 atented Apr. 17, 1923.
GUSTAV BYOB, OF EDGAR, NEBRASKA.
REGISTER.
Application filed April 29, 1921. Serial No. 465,564.
To all whom it may concern 'Be it known that I, GUSTAV A. Bron, a citizen of: the United States, residing at Edgar, in the county of Clay and State of Nebraska, have invented a newand useful Register, of which the following is a specitication. p
This invention has reference to registers, and more particularly to registers used in connection with hot-air furnaces, commonly known as the pipeless or vacuum furnace.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a register which will increase the circulation of air through the room in which the register is positioned and to insure the cold air mingling with the heated air at a point adjacent to the floor of a room.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means for moistening the air in the room by the contact of the air with water, on its passage through the register.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of a register constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 designates the support for the register which support is provided with an inwardly extending flange 6 providing a rest for the base 7 of the register,
the support being however of a construction to be fitted within an opening in the floor of a room to admit heat to the register through the opening defined by the flange 6.
The base 7 is provided with a flange 8 adapted to contact with the upper surface of the support 5 to secure the base 7 in proper relation with the support 5, and to brace the upperportion of the base 7 against lateral movement.
Having connection with the base 7 are a to engage the lower edge of the cover 12 forming a part of the register.
This cover 12 embraces the upper portion of the collar 10,'to secure the cover thereto, and as shown a depending flange 13 forms a part of the cover, which flange is circular in formation and provides a support for thei cylindrical member 1 1 which is of a length to extend to a point in proximity to the floor in which the register is positioned.
A depending member 15 also forms a part of the cover 12 and provides means to accommodate the upper end of the tubular member 16, which has its lower end disposed in proximity to the lower end of the cylindrical member 14 to provide a passageway therebetween and direct heat to the openings 18. In order that the heat passing upwardly through the register will not be conducted to the exterior thereof, an asbestos cover 17 is provided and positioned over the tubular member 16.
Formed in the cover 12 are a plurality of openings 18 which permit the air which enters the register from points between the arms 9, to pass outwardly from the register. The upper portion of the register includes a collar 19 fitted in the upper end of the tubular member 16 and in contact with the depending member 15, the enlargement 20 being formed to restrict movement of the collar 19 with respect to the depending member 15.
An upper collar 21 forms a part of the upper portion of the register, and to this collar 21 are secured a plurality of arms 22 which have their lower ends connected to the collar 19 and disposed in spaced relation with each other to permit heated air to pass outwardly therebetween.
An inverted cone-shaped deflector 23 is connected to the arms 22, so that air pas sagew'ays are provided adjacent to the upper end of the deflector 23 between the upper ends of the arms 22, so that quantities of air may pass upwardly through these passageways. Positioned on the upper end of the upper portion of the register, is acap 24: which is provided with openings25 to permit heat to pass therethrough.
Positioned in the upper portion of the register is a container 26, the same being of a diameter equal to the lnterior diameter of the cap 24: so that the container Wlll be supported against movement within the uppassing upwardly therethrough; will be retarded on its upward movement, and caused to take a lateral course with the result that I the entire area of the room is heated.
It might be further stated howeverthat the tubular member 16, when the device is put to use, will have connection with the usual pipeless furnace now in use.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 2- y In a register, a lower section, a cover for the lower section, a depending flange forming a part of the cover, a cylindrical member positioned over the depending flange, a base section, a collar, arms connecting the base section and collar, said collar being positioned within the cover, a tubular member positioned within the cylindrical member and. spaced from the walls thereof, and an upper section positioned within the cover and including a plurality of spaced arms.
ln-stestimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
