Although we prefer to employ birch tar in the manufacture of the improved soap or composition, we may, if desired, employ any other vegetable tar, or we may employ gas or any other mineral tar.

What we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A saponaceous antiseptic and insecticidal composition comprising soap, a fixed alkali benzoate, and tar in the proportions of eighty parts of soap, ten parts of fixed alkali benzoate, and ten parts of tar.
2. That process of producing a composition of soap, fixed alkali benzoate and tar which conslsts in treating a mixture of proper proportions of fatty acids, benzoic acid and tar with a fixed alkali in sutlicient quantity to saponify the fatty acids and ROBERT MACPHERSON. WILLIAM E. HEYS.
