HT fiTS rasaaa GIBBONS J. DENNIS, 018 E 31 CLALWIP.
Application filed May 27,
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GrBBoNs J. DENNIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kiefer, in the county of Greek and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in tanks, the general object of the invention being to construct a tank with steel sides and a Wooden bottom, with means for clamping the sides to the bottom.
Another object of.the invention is to provide a plurality of clamping members which are provided with means for clamping the sides to the bottom and with means for holding the clamps in position.
This invention also consists in certain! other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. 4
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan View of the invention.
Figure 2 is an elevation.
Figu
re 3 is a longitudinal sectional View. The remaining figures are detail views.
In these views 1 indicates the steel sides of the tank and 2 the wooden bottom thereof.
The sides are formed with bottom flanges 3 for resting upon the bottom, packing material 4 being placed between the flanges and the bottom. The clamps are shown at 5, and
each clamp consists of a body 6 curved to conform to the tank, said body having a roove 7 therein to receive theedge of the bottom and a recess 8 above the groove for 1922. Serial No. 564,217.
receiving the flange of the side. Clamping bolts 9 pass through the upper part of the body and engage the flange to force the same upon the bottom. Lugs 10 are formed on the clamps, said lugs having recesses in their outer ends for receiving a hoop 11 which holds the clamps in place.
From the above it will be seen that the flanges of the sides are securely clamped to the bottom, the packing material making a tight joint between the parts. Thus the wooden bottom is securely held to the metal sides and in such a manner as to prevent leakage.
It is-thought from the foregoin descriptionthat the advantages and nove features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desireit to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims. What I claim is 1. A tank comprising a bottom, side walls having flanges at their lower ends, areshaped clampin members, each having a groove therein or receiving a part of the bottom and a recess above the groove for receiving the flange and clamping bolts for holding the parts in assembled position.
2. A tank comprising a bottom, side walls having flanges at their lower ends, areshaped clamping members, each having a groove therein for receiving a part of the bottom, a recess above the groove for receiving the flange, clamping bolts for holding the parts in assembled position, grooved projections on the outer faces of the clamping sections and a hoop engaging the grooves in said projections.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GIBBONS J. DENNIS.
