Be it known that T, Ci-mnnns W. F RENTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Sewing Box, of which the-following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in work holders or sewing boxes and moi-sparticularly to the means for supporting a plurality of spools of cotton, yarn or the like whereby the spools or rolls may. be supported in a manner which willperlnit the convenient unwindingoi' the material as it is being used. D For the purpose of disclosing my invention I have illustrated certain embodiments of the invention in the accompanying drawing in which;

In the embodiment of the invention illus trated T preferably provide a box or receptacle 1 which may take any suitable form but is illustrated as being rectangular n shape and is divided into a series oit compartments 2, 3, and l, by a pair of divid ng walls 5 and 6. The compartment 2 preterably extends the entire length of the receptacle, while compartments 3 and a are only of the structure about one half the lengthot compartment 2. The box or receptacle is provided with a suitable hinged cover 7 which on its lower face is provided with a series of loops 8 to receive variouv sewing implements, such as scissors 9 and the like. V

In one of the compartments, preferably compartment l, I arrange a spool holder for a number of spools of thread. This holder comprises a base 10 which is removably fitted in the compartment and 15 provided with a series of spool pins 11 extending vertically therefrom. The spools are mounted on these pins and the thread from the spools is led out through openings 12 in one of the side walls of the receptacle cushion 14 for pins or needles.

The plate '21 at suitable intervals has formed therein an elongated Slot 25 which is intersected by transversely extending slot 26, the slot 26 being sufliciently wide to permit the insertion therein of the head 20. The flange 22 at a point opposite slot 25 is provided with .a slot 27 corresponding in width to slot 25 and each of the ribs 28 at a point beneath the slot 25 is cut away as at 28 a distance equal to the length of slot 26.

The above socket arrangement permits of the mounting oi? the spindles 17 in either a vertical or horizontal position. lit it is desired to mount th spindle in avertical position the i head 20 which is flattened and has a substantial width is first inserted in the slot 26 with the spindle 17 extending in a horizontal position. Slot 2? permits the l head to drop below the surface of plate 21 and spindle 1'? may then be rotated to a vertical position with the head 20 substantially parallel with the plate 21. By sliding head 20 back: under the plate 21 to a position where the head fits in the cut-away rib the spindle 1? will be supported vertically as indicated in Fig- 2.

If it is desired to support the spindle in n nme new t e est after bein xsothat the thread may be readily taken off i inserted as above described is moved further inwardly until. it clears rib 23, after which thespindle may be turned downwardly into a horizontal position and the spindle will be locked against displacement. The post 15 is removably mounted 'in positionand to support it in its vertical position I provide a bolt 29 which may be passed through the post and through the-wall 5,;a wing nut 30 being adapted to engage the bolt on the opposite side of thewall and-therebyclamp the post to the wall.

The compartment 2 ispreferably extended the entire widtlrof the .box or receptacle so that when the post and supporting spindle 17 are disassembled they .may be stored in the compartment.

;I claim as my .invention-: 1. In a sewingbox, the combination with a. receptacle, of a spool support comprising .a central post, a table supportedon said post, said. table havinga plurality of sockets, and aplurality ofspool spindles having means removably engag ng in sa1d-sockets.

2. In a sewing box, the combinationawith a receptacle, ofa supported. post removably secured in position in said. receptacle, a table supported on said vpost and having a plu- ,rality of sockets formed therein and a plu- .rality of spool supportingspindles having means arranged, to engage in said sockets to permit said spindles to be supported in either a vertical or horizontal position.

' 3. In a sewing box, the combination with a suitable receptacle, of a spool support mounted therein comprising a central post,

,atable mounted on said post, said table having a T shaped slot formed therein and a spool supporting spindle having a Thead arranged to be inserted in the transverse portion of said T slot and engaged beneath the table to support said spindle in work holding position.

4. In asewing box the combination with a receptacle, of a spool holder support comprising a central post removably supported by said receptacle, a table secured at the upend of said post having a plurality of sockets and a plurality of spool receiving spindles each havingmeans for engaging said sockets ,to permit the spindles to be mounted in either a vertical or horizontal position.
