content;
Application filed December 8, reai'wsei-iai in. 520,947.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrrr JnnoMn' EAGAN, a citizen of the Unlted States, and a resident of New Castle, in the county of Lawrence and State of Pennsylvania, have .invented certain new and ments in Collars, specification. y
This invention relates to improvements in useful Improve collars used as wearing apparel.
The object of the invention is to provide a collar. of the so called turned down type with a novel form of button hole in one tab thereof, adapted to facilitate the buttoning i ample n the showing the tabs thereof connected by a col-. r lar with button y 13 111 which the respective ends at 14, and the flap 13 of the collar locked a neck band I about a persons neck and properly adjusting the same after being buttoned.
Also an object of the invention is that the button hole be adapted to permit locking the associatedcollar button in adjusted position.
Theinvention is illustrated by way of exaccompanying drawings, in which y a Figure l is a perspective view of a collar button and the under tab formed hole of the present invention,
Figure 2 is a front elevation showing the end portions of the collar and. associated tabs and moreclearly illustrating the invention,
Figure 3 is a fragmentary front elevation showing the ends of a collarconnected or held together by a collar button and particularly illustrating how the collar button is a gainst movement.
Referring to the drawingsmore particularly, U indicates type heretofore referred to and consisting in portion 10, the turned down portion 11 and the two flap portions 12 and of the neck band 10 terminate. The flap 12 may be re ferred to as the under flap or the shorter flap, while the flap 13 may be referred to as the upper flap or the longer flap. The band 10 is provided with the usual rear button hole as is provided with the usual slit or button hole 15.
. The present invention consists in providing the shorter or under flap 12 with a singular shaped button hole to obtain the advantages mentioned in positioning a collar about a persons neck. The button hole comprises an inclined portion 16 which terminates at its lbwer end in the portion 17. The portion .16 is relatively broader than the ever is optional as the portion 17 does not of which the following is a generally a collar of the end of which is nearer to the free end of portion 17 as shown, and the portion 17 of the button hole is disclosed at substantially right angles to the portion 16. This howneedto be exactly at right angles to the portion 16.
In positioning the collar about a persons neck the rear button is first extended through the button hole 14 then the button .i hole of the shorter flap 12 has extended therethrough the front collar button as at 17, and the button 17" is preferably extended through the upper end of the portion 16 in the button hole of the flap 12. As is obvious by such an arrangement no great effort need to be exerted in buttoning the flap 12, in that by extending the button through the upper end of the associated but- 1 ton hole the collar is slightly increased in length. The tab 13 may now be brought over and buttoned to the collar button 17 and then extended beneath the turned down portion 11. The upper endof tab 12 may now be grasped and pulled upward so that the collar button 17 may slide downwardly and then into the portion 17 of the button hole and thus locking the tab in position.
It also should be observed that the purpose of making the portion 16 of the button hole of the tab 12 larger thanv the angular portion 17 is to facilitate the upward and downward movement of the collar button therein. I claim. 1 V,
l. A collar of the character described having a tab or extension at each end, one of said tabs being shorter than the other, and the shorter tab provided with a. button hole consisting in an inclined slot, the upper tab than the lower end, thereof.
2. A collar of the character described having a tab or extension at each end, one of said tabs being shorter than the other, and the shorter tab provided with a button hole consisting in an inclined slot, the upper end of which is nearer to the free end of tab than the lower end thereof, and the lower end of the slot terminating in a second slot disposed at an angle to the inclined slot.
3. A collar of the character described having a tab or extension at each end, one of said tabs being shorter than the other, and the shorter tab provided with a button hole consistingin an inclined slot, the upper end of which is nearer to the free end of the tab than the lower end thereof, and the lower end of the 'slot terminating in a second slot extending laterally and forwardly With relation to the first named slot.
of which is nearer to the free end of tab than the lower end thereof, the lower end of the slot terminating in :L second slot extending laterally and forwardly with relation to the first named slot, and said second ninned slot being of less width than the first named slot.
