Then the bolt is in the position shown in 'Fig. v5, the projections 0n the bolt at the right side of the cut-away portions 25 (see Figs.` 3, 4: and 5) are shifted under the projee-tions 26 `on the plate 16, as shown in Fig. 5, vandv lock thel platev against movement. i' 27 is a key slot in the bolt 14 which is adapted to receive a key to shift the bolt from locking to unlocking or from unlocking to locking' ositions.
-. In 4Fig t e bolt is shown in its unlocked position with the lock plate 16 deprojection pressed to free thehasp's and in which the '23'on the bolt foot is in the lett hand recess 22 inthe bolt lcontrol plate 21.
When it is desired to lock the bag, the hasps v12 are moved into engagement with the pro .jections 2Q,y thelkey is inserted and turned vandy the bolt shifted to the right (as viewed in Fig. 6), to shift the projections of the bolt 14 under theproj'ections 26 on the lock plate, so 'that the lock plate is locked by "the bolt while the hasps are locked by the l projections 20 on the lock plate. When the bolt is in its locking position, the projection 23r on the vtoot of the bolt is shifted from the left hand notch 2 2 in the control plate 21 (as viewed in Fig. 6) and as the control plateis retained in engagement with the toot 14 0f the bolt -by the spring 211, the plate 21 will retain the bolt in either of its key shifted. positions.
As the control plate is raised against the action of the spring 24, when the bolt is *shifted ormfone positionto the other, the
bolt .14 is only subjected to asli'ding move- `ment in the casing and is always held ragainst the bottom of the casing 13 by the action of spring 24;
IThe advantages of our invention result from the provision of .a lock' for bags in whi'ehthe bolt is provided with a foot which is guidedpby the bottom Wall and the two sidewalls of the easing. Further, from the provision'of abolt control plate on the foot control plate,
of the bolt together with. spring means for retaining the lock plate and bolt control plate in posit-ions.
Also from the provision ot locking recesses and projections on the bolt foot and the control plate arranged to retain the bolt in its shifted position, and which are so ar ranged that the bolt can be shifted longitun dinally without raising the bolt.
Another advantage results 'from the pio vision ot a locking plate in. which the hasp lugs are pressed in the body of the plate so that the cam faces thereof merge into one face of the lock plate and form smooth easy acting cams for depressing the locking plate.
Having now fully described our invention, what we claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
L 1. A device of the character described comprising a easing, a lock plate mounted in the casing, a bolt slidably mounted in the casing arranged to be moved into and out of locking engagement with the lock plate, said bolt having a flange in engagement with the bottom of the casing, a bolt control plate in the casing on the bolt ange, interlocking projections and recesses onV the iiange and the bolt control plate, and a spring interposed between the control plate and the lock plate.
2. A device of the character described having a casing with a bottom and two side members, a bolt arranged to lie along one side member and having a foot member extending from One side member to the other resting on the bottom of the casing, a lock plate arranged to be locked by the bolt, and a spring interposed between the {iange on the bolt and the lock plate.
A device of the character described having a casing with top, bottom and two side walls, a lock plate arranged to reciprocate in the casing, a bolt arranged to reciprocate in the casing at right angles to the movement of the lock plate, there being interlocking means between the bolt and locking plate to lock the plate against movement when the bolt is in one position and to permit the plate to be moved when the bolt is in another position, a flange on the bolt extending from side to side of the cas-- ing and in engagement with the bottom ot the casing, the bottom and side walls forming guides for thebolt, a bolt control )late resting on the flange on the bolt, interlock ing means on the fiange on the bolt and the and a` leaf spring interposed between the control plate and the lock plate.
ln testimony oli' which inif'ention we have hereunto set our hands, at Philadelphia, Pa., on this 11th day ot July, 1921.
