SELF SERVING TABLE. FILED DEC. 18. 1920.

' anv desired design and has a Patented Feb. 6, 1923.
JOHN Iv'LATERNA, OF MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE.
SELF-SERVING- TABLE.
Application filed. December 18, 1920. SeriaI No. 431,628.
1/ 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JoHN MATERNA, a citizen of the United States residing at Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful lmproven'ients in Self-Serving Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to self serving dining tables and an object of the invention is to provide a table which is constructed to permit all the persons seated at the table to wait upon themselves without reaching across the table or rising from their chairs.
Another object of this invention is to provide a self serving table which includes a stationary top and a rotatable top positioned above the stationary top, and of smaller diameter than the stationary top, the said rotatable top being adapted to carry foods and to be rotated by diners to permit them to serve themselves and also to provide a table of this type which is simple in construction, durable, and one which can be readily and easily taken down for shipping or storage.
Other obj ects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description and in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section through the improved self serving table.
Fig. 2 is atop plan of the self serving table showing parts in section.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the improved self serving table comprises a supporting base 1 which may be of V centrally disposed upstanding portion. 2 on its upper end provided with an axial recess 3 extending thereinto from its upper surface. The base of therecess 3 is provided with a ballracc iin which bearing balls 5 are seated and these bearing balls 5 engage in a ballrace 6 formed in the under surface of the stem 7 of the support 8 upon which the food carrying table 9 is mounted. A pin 10 is formed upon the supporting base 1 centrally of the recess 3 and it engages in a recess 11 formed in the under surface of the support 8. A
stationary table top 12 is attached to the supporting base 1 in any approved manner and is adapted to carry the china and silver of the diners.
The rotatable food carrying table top 9 preferably has 2. depending flange 13 extending there about which may be gripped by a diner to rotate the top 9 to bring food thereon within easy reach. However, the annular flange 13 is primarily provided for artistic or decorative effect on the table. The support 8 is connected to the rotatable table top 9iby means of a pair of diametrically extending brace bar's 1a which serve to brace the table top as well as permit connection between the table top and the support 8.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A self serving table comprising a cylindrical pedestal, an axially arranged vertical pin arranged in the top of the pedestal, there being an annular recess surrounding the pin, a sleeve like stem snugly fitting the recess and embracing the pin, an annular flange extending from the stem, brace bars on the flange, a top secured to the bars, and ball bearings arranged in the bottom of the recess with said stem resting thereon.
In testimony whereof I a'liix my signature.
JOHN MAJTERNA.
