Description

J. Foot-Warmers.
.B'. 0 RA a,
Patented No v.]1,1873.
No. 144,44s.
Attorneys,
JOHN B. CRAIG, OF PERRYSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOOT-WARIVlERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,445, dated November 11, 1873; application filed May 5, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN B. CRAIG, of Perrysville, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Portable Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in the class of portable heaters consisting of a metal case or box containing a block of soap-stone or other material, which is removed when requiredto be heated. The invention consists in an an rangement of ribs and pins for supporting the block and holding it in place on the cover of the case or box, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a bottom view, and Fig. 2 a vertical section through line as x of Fig. 1.
A is a box or case, preferably of cast-iron, and of polygonal form. B is the bottom, which is hinged to A on one side, and secured by a link passing over the handle or bail C on the other side. D D are pins attached to the inside of the bottom. E is the heating-block, preferably made of cast-iron, which has holes in its under side to receive the pins 1) D, and thereby confine it in the center of the heater.
One edge of this block is recessed and has a wire, F, by means of which the block may be lifted with a hook, and be put in and taken from the heater.
Both the pins and ribs have important functions, the one to prevent the block moving about in the box when the latter is being handled or carried about, and the other to prevent the block coming in contact with the cover, and thus unduly heating the same, thereby causing injury to the floor, carpet, or other object. The ribs also allow access of the air that is within the box to the under side of the block.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The bottom B, having the pins D and ribs Gr, combined with a block having cavities H to hold said block in the box A, as set forth.
JNO. B. CRAIG.
