such as willenable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to makeand use the same.

The invention relates to a combined article and pocket clip, whereby, a number of papers may be secured in compact form and fastened to a pocket, garment or like part.

The invention consists of a dualclip comprising two opposed gripping members and an intermediate abutting member, the several parts being of peculiar construction and arrangement.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood. 7

While the drawing illustrates an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes 1n the form, proportlon and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.

The clip comprises an article grip 1, a pocket clip 2 and an intermediate abutting member 3 common to the two grips and coacting therewith. a

The article grip is formed preferably of a single length. of wire of suitable gage having its opposite end portions bent laterally in the same direction to form a jaw 4 and extension 5 and a retainer 6. The wire at a point intermediate the lateral extension 5 and jaw 4 is formed into a coil 7 which gives added resiliency to admit of a relatively thick article being gripped between the parts 1 and 4. The jaw 4 consists of a loop and projects some distance beyond the end of the lateralextension 5 to insure firm and positive'engagement with a packet of papers, a purse or other article to be made secure. j

The pocket clip comprises the elements 2 and 3 which constitute parts 'of a single metal strip folded upon itself and receiving the lateral extension 5 in the fold. The free end of the part 3 engages the jaw 4 and is yieldingly held in contact therewith by means of the retainer 6 which extends across Q the clip adjacent the bight'or fold in which is located the lateral extension 5. The terminal portion of the retainer 6 is bent rear wardly to extend across the inner edge of the pocket clip and prevent inward movement or displacement thereof. The retainer 6 consists of an end portion of the lateral extension 5. Outward displacementof the pocket clip is prevented by theportion 01' the wire connecting the lateral extension 5 with the retainer 6. The retainer 6 exerts a degree of pressure on the pocket clip to yieldably hold the member 3 in engagement with the jaw 4: wliereby an article placed between the parts 3 and 4 will be firmly gripped in substantially the same manner as a clip of any formation. The blank from which the pocket clip is formed consists of a strip of spring metal of any nature suitable for the purpose. The pocket clip 2 is offset as indicatedv at 9 to form an abutment or stop for the retainer 6 as well as to properly space the upper end of the part 2 from the part 3.

In practice papers, letters, purses or other article to be made secure is held between the jaw 4 and abutting member 3 after which such articles are placed in the pocket and are made secure agalnst displacement by gripping the upper portion of a side of a pocket between the member 3 and the part 2. It

will thus be understood that the article cannot readily slip from the pocket when the person stoops or leans forward. Moreover, the clip guards against the pocket being.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 1- 1. A. clip comprising an element having a lateral extension at one end and a laterally j extending jaw at the opposite end, a member mounted upon said lateral extension and cooperating with the said jaw and a retainer-formmg a part of said lateral ext-ension and engaging the member mounted thereon to, hold the same in operative position.

6. A clip of the character specified comprising a wire having a portion formed into a coil and having a lateral extension and retainer at one end with the terminal portion of the retainer bent laterally and having a laterally extending jaw at its opposite end and a metal strip folded upon itself to .provide an abutting member and a pocket clip, the fold of the strip receiving said lateral extension, and the pocket clip having an offset portion with which said retainer is in engagement, the bent terminal portion of the retainer engaging an edge of the pocket clip to prevent displacement of the same and the latter coacting with the said jaw.
