To all whom itmag concern:
4 Be it known that 1, ANDREW J. BARRON, residing in Cincinnati, county of Hamilton, State of. Ohio, and a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful I Improvements in Automobile Truck Constructions, ofjwhich-the following is a specification. I I V M This invention has for its objectthe provision of novel structural means for adjustably ecuring the body sills ,of: Ford trucks on a rear channel-bar.
Some Ford trucks'ihave the body sills placed over the channels of the truck, and this makes them closer together than if they were placed on the flanges intended to support them. Again, there is another form of body with sills of irregular widths. My form of channel-bar, and the sill strap-irons and securing clips (hereinafter particularly described) in cooperative combination with the channel-bar, are adapted for use with any style of Ford truck.
The accompanying drawing illustrates an exemplary form of my invention. Briefly described:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of so much of the rear portion of a Ford truck as is necessary for'an understanding of the inventive improvements shown applied thereto;
Figure 2 is a view in end elevation; that is, a view showing my improvements as they appear when Viewed from a position at the rear end of the truck; the channel bar being partly broken away;
Figure 3 is a sectional view, on the plane of the line 3-3, Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow indicated thereon;
Figure 4 is a detached detail view, in perspective, of one of the clips of my invention.
Referring, now,-in detail'to the drawing:
1, 1 designate the conventional body-sills of the Ford truck, 2 designates the rear cross spring, 15, 15 side springs, 16, 16 the usual longitudinal members, and 18 the propellershaft, which is extended rearward to bring the differential 19 to a position in rear of the usual cross member 20.
3 designates my channel-bar disposed over and extending longitudinally of the spring 2. and secured thereto in appropriate manner, as by means of the threaded bolts 4 passing through the channel bar and through a plate 5 adapted to bear against the under surface of-the spring 2, nuts 6 being screwed on the threaded-ends of the bolts and, against the plate 5; Preferably, as; shown,the bolts 4. do not pass through the spring The desirable arrangement is as shown in the drawing, wherein it is seen. that, said bolts are, .in the assembled position of the parts, disposed adjacent the spring, atthe ides thereof. 7 The channelbar 3-is disposed,as shown, so thatthe two side longitudinal; flanges thereof 1 project downward, toward thespring'Q. ,Thagmeans for adj u stably securing the sills 1, 1 on the channel-bar, 3 will now be described; For each sill two strap-irons 'Z, 7 are provided, each strap-iron having threaded terminals 8, 8. (Jo-operating with each strap-iron are two clips 9, 9, most clearly shown in Fig. 4. The clips are of peculiar form, and each has a flat face 10' adapted to bear squarely against one of the side flanges of the channel-bar 3, a curved .the side of said wall oppositethat of the jaw or hook '11, said flange 12 being perforated, as shown at 13 to permit one leg of the strap-iron 7 to project therethrough. Nuts 14 screwed on the threaded ends 8 of the legs of the strap-irons, 7 secure the sills 1, 1 in adjusted position.
. By loosening or removing the nuts 14, the sills 1, 1 are free to be adjusted relative to the channel-bar 3, either longitudinally or transversely thereof, or, vice versa, the channel-bar 3 may be adjusted relative to the sills 1, 1.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. The combination with the body sills of a Ford truck,- of a channel-bar upon. which said body sills are adapted to rest, said channel-bar being disposed with its two longitudinal side flanges projecting downward, and means including clips bearing against and engaging under said side flanges, for adjustably securing aid sills to said channel-bar.
2. The combination with the body sills of a Ford truck, of a channel-bar upon which said body sills are adapted to rest, said channel-bar being disposed with its two longitudinal side flanges projecting downward, and means for adjustably securing said sills to said channel-bar, comprising clips bearing against and engaging under said side flanges, and members passing over said sills and operatively connected with said clips.
3. The combination with the body sills of a Ford truck, of a channel-bar upon which said body sills are adapted to rest, saidchannel-bar being disposed with it two longitudinal side flanges projecting downward, and means for adjustably securing said sills to said channel-bar, comprising clips bearing against and engaging under said side flanges, and straps passing over sills and projecting through said clips.
4. The combination with the body sills ofa Ford truck, of a channel-bar upon which said body sills are adapted to rest, said channel-bar being disposed with its two longitudinal side flange projecting downward, and means for adjustably securing said sills to said channel-bar, comprising clips hooking undersaid side flanges and each clip provided with a perforated flange, and members passing over said sills and projecting through the perforations in the clip-flanges.
5. The combination with the body sills of a Ford truck, of a channel-bar upon which said body sills are adapted to rest, said channel-bar being disposed with its two longitudinal side flanges projecting downward, and means for adjustably securing said sills to said channel-bar, comprising clipseach having a lateral hook-portion engaging under one of the said side flanges of the channel-bar, and having, also, a perforated: flange, and members passlng over said sills and projecting through the perforations in the clip-flanges;
