Be it known that I, GnoReE FREDERICK JAoKsoN, a subject of'the King of Great.
Britain, and resident of Ridge'holme, Ba- 5 venswing Avenue, Blackburn, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented a certaln new and useful Improvement in Air- Moistening Apparatus, of which the following description, having reference to the accompanying sheet of drawings, is a specification.
It relates to apparatus for use in the moistenin'g or humidifying of air and distributing same in rooms, workshops, weav ing sheds and other places (or for humidifying by other liquids than water, as liquid hydrocarbons, desired to be used for other purposes) of the type or character comprising a main passage or conduit-within a cavity of which is situated or mounted devices for spraying or atomizing water (or other liquids) through which spray of water 'or liquid, air-is forced by a fan or other air propelling mechanism, said air being caused to travel through the spray to gather same up and carry it along through the conduit from which it is deliv'ered by lateral nozzles extending from said main conduit as is well understood.
In connection with this type of apparatus I have often found that some of the moisture in the issuing humidified ,air' accumulates at the orifices of the nozzles to such an extent as to form drops which fall therefrom in a most undesirable manner.
To produce means whereby said condensed moisture is prevented from accumulating and descending or falling to any undesirable place, but is caught and returned to 40 a suitable receptacle from which it'is either again used in the apparatus or is otherwise dealt with so that {the objectionable features heretofore experienced are entirely avoided; is the object of my present invention. 4
In the accompanying sheets of drawings which are illustrative of my invention Fig. 1 is a side elevation illustrating the type of apparatus to which my invention relates, the same being shown as mounted in a room and extendm froma side wall C thereof in manner wel known.

A indicates the main passage or conduit through or along which the humidified air is propelled, said conduit being mounted usually in the upper part of a room with the propelling fan B situated near one or other of the walls C of said room, while through the pipes 2 and 3 are admitted water or other liquid and steam or' compressed air or the like which are controlled by'the valves2 and 3 respectively.
To attain the object of my invention I mount or arrange over each of the lateral projecting nozzles 4 an additional sleeve 5 which will reach slightly beyond the outer orifice or end P- of the nozzle 4 thus any moisture which may gather andfall inthe form of drops from the end of said. nozzle 4 is received by said outer sleeve 5.
This said moisture is conducted by said outer sleeve .5 down a trough or guiding passage 6 into a gutter 7 which is preferably situated beneath the main conduit A so that said gutter 7 is common, to the whole series of sleeves 5, this gutter. 7 conducts, the accumulated moisture back to a receptacle 8.
In order to enable the'moisture which is received by the outer sleeves 5 to be guided in its passage from said sleeve 5 into the passage 6 I fix ridges 9, 9* within said sleeve 5 so that by having same shaped to be at a greaterdistance towards the outer end 4* of the inner conduit 4 approaching each other when reaching towards the wall of the main conduit A the moisture is thereby conducted into the passage 6 from which it falls into the main or common gutter 7 as hereinbefore described.
Although I have hereinbefore described my invention as consisting of a sleeve 5 which encircles the entire length of'each nozzle 4 it is perfectly obvious that said sleeve may surround only the outer end of the nozzle as shown at '5 in Fig. 5 in which case the passage 6 would be continued beneath the nozzle 4 from the part 5 to the main gutter 7. Or again the sleeve 5 may be divided so as to only cover the lower portion of the nozzle 4 as illustrated by ig. 6. However I find that the sleeve in its entirety answers the purpose better and therefore I preferably make use of the same.
Such being the nature and object of my said invention what I claim is Inapparatus of the class to which this invention relates, a main conduit, a fan casing to which said conduit is connected, a fan mounted in said casing, a pipe for conducting liquid to the main conduit, another pipe for conducting fluid or gas under pressure to said main conduit independently of the fan, discharge nozzles opening from the walls of said conduit, a shield surrounding and extending beyond the outer end of each nozzle and spaced therey
