Description

' parts detached. Fig. 3 is an end view. 4is a diagram of part of the hand portion ofa glove.
*UNITED STATES To all whom it mayrconcem:
Be it known that I, JAMES I. MGMARTIN, of
= I J ohnstown, in the county of Fulton and State 5 of New York, have invented an Improvement p in Gloves, of which the following is a specification:
' The invention consists in a single glove pattern, by which-the thumb may be cut in one ".piece if made entirely of leather, or of two H "pieces if made'with a leather front and cloth j back.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the two-part pattern as it appears when the said two parts are connected for cutting the whole thumb in one piece. Fig. 2 is a plan view through the two Fig.
Fig. 5 is perspective view of the finished thumb.
A is the pattern for back of thumb, and B the pattern for front, provided with slit (J for gore D, shown in Fig. 5. The seam-edges D PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES I. MGMARTIN, OF J OHNSTOWN NEW YORK.
/ IMPROVEMENTIN GLOVES.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 133,998, dated December 17, 1872.
E are joined along the side of thumb. When the thumb is made in two parts, the front B of leather and the back A of cloth, there will be anotherseam along the upper part of thumb.
This seam is shown at K, Fig. 5, upon the glove. F shows the line of division of pattern, and G exhibits the lapping edges, while H are dowel-pins that fasten the said edges together. The object of lapping the parts is to provide room for the rib I, by which to cut a correspondin g extension of the part A of the thumb.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A pattern having front B and back A separated on line F, and having the edges lapped at G and held by pins H, as and for the purpose described.
JAMES I. MGMARTIN. Witnesses:
W. D. Foorn, JAMES H. PIKE.
