To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FoNzo M. COLLINS and JAMES H. G NN, citizens of the United States, residing at Holtville, in the county of Imperial and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and we do herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
This invention relates to improvements in toys.
The object of this invention is to provide a wheeled toy which includes a frame, a platform on the frame, a miniature representation of a horned frog located on the platform and the frog having a movable tail and tongue, and means connected with the axle, whereby upon rotation of the wheels the tail and tongue will be moved, deriving an amusement for young folks.
Another-object of this invention is to provide a toy of this character, which will be simple, practical, and comparatively inexpensive in construction and one that can be manufactured at a low cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed. 7

Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings. r
' Referring more particularlyto the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a platform which may be constructed of suitable material and it is providedcentrally with a longitudinally extending slot 2. The platform is also provided adjacent its forward end andgpentrally of its side edges with an opening A substantially U shaped supporting frame 4 is secured by its web to the under side of the platform 1 adjacent the rear edge thereof and its arms depend downwardly therefrom and terminate into hearing loops 5. A pair of inclined reinforcmg rods 6 have their lower end provided with bearing loops 7 which are adapted to aline with the loops 5 formed in the arms of the U-shaped frame 4. The upper ends of the rods are bent upwardly as at 8 and extend up through the platform near the marginal edge thereof and are clutched against the upper side thereof to rigidly support the frame in position on the platform.
The web of the U-shaped frame is secured to the under side of the platform by suitable staples 9 as shown in Figs. 3 and 1 of the drawings.
A crank shaft 10 is adapted to be located under the platform 1 and has its ends rotatably mounted in and extended through and beyond the loops 5 and 7 carried by the frameand reinforcing bars, thus rotatably supporting and connecting the bars to the frame. The opposite or extended ends of the crank shaft have secured thereon the wheels 11, which wheels rotatably support the platform.
An operating bar 12 is pivotall connected as at 13 to themedial portion 0 the crankshaft 10 and has its opposite end terminating into a loop 14 which has pivotally secured therein the looped end 15 of the'link 16. The upper end of said link extends upwardly through and beyondthe upper edge of the longitudinal slot 2 in the platform 1 and terminates into a loop 17. A substantially rectangular frame is secured to the under side of the platform near the forward end thereof and depends downwardly therefrom and is provided in its lower end .with a bearing eye 16 "in which the rod 12 is slidably supported. A reciprocating bar 18 hasone end pivotally connected to the upper end of the link 16 as at '19 and has "its opposite end bent upwardly and forwardly as at 20, the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described. 1
A block 21 is secured to the upper side of the. platform 1 at the rear end thereof and centrally of the side edges and this block is to represent a stone having a roughened outer surface. Extending upwardly from the rear side of the block and inclin- 111g outwardly therefrom is a supporting rod 22, upon which is secured the representation of an insect, such as a fly or the like I anddesignated 23.

A plurality of members 35 are arranged in pairs, and each pair is pivoted to the opposite sides of the body on the under side thereof as at 36 and has its inner ends connected together by the rod 37, and one member of each pair is connected together by the plate 38 which is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 39 adapted to receive the forward extended portion of the reciprocating rod 18 therein for moving the member 35 simultaneously upon the movement of the crank shaft. A plurality of second members 40 are pivotally secured as at 41 to each of the first named members 35 adjacent the outer ends thereof and are arranged parallel with the body and the members and are adapted to represent the legs of the figure24.
The inner end of the rod 33 is connected to the inner end of one of the members 35 as at 42, and thus the tongue will bereciprocated inthe opening 32 upon movement of the crank shaft and legs, which are de- A wear plate 43 is provided with a'concave longitudinally extending recess 44, and
this plate is secured centrally within the recess 31 of the body and is located between the inner ends of one pair of the menibers and is adapted to receive the eye 17 of the link 16 therein when forced upwardly for moving the members 35 and "40 and tongue 33.
The forward end of the body designated by the numeral 26 is adapted to rest upon the reduced portion 45 formed upon the 40 and reciprocating the tongue 33, causing the tongue to move in the direction of the object 23 on'theinclined rod 22. p
A handle member 46, formed of a single length of wire, is looped at its medial portion as at 47 to provide a hand grip and is twisted as at 48 and has its free end provided with a substantially, U-shaped connecting member 49, th'e'ends of the arms of which are extended upwardly throughthe forward end of the platform 1 and secured therein in any suitable manner so that the device may be pulled and the wheels ro-' tated, thus moving the legs of the figure upon the platform.
In assembling the device for use:
' The crank shaft is secured through the frame and reinforcing bars. The wheels are secured to the ends of the crankshaft. The platform is secured to the web of the frame and ends-of the reinforcing bars The connecting bar and link is pivotally secured to the medial portion of the'crank shaft and the bar extends upwardly through the medial portion of the platform. The reciprocating bar is pivotally secured to the upper end of the link and has its forward end connected to the figure, whereby upon rotation of the wheels of the frame, the legs and tongue of the animal will be moved to represent a crawling figure. What is claimed is: J I
1. A toy comprising a platform, a frame secured to the under side of the platform, a crank shaft journaled in the frame, wheels journaled on the crankshaft, a fi ure having movable legs and tongue mounted upon the upper side of the platform, and means connected to the crank shaft and to the figure formoving the legs and tongue of the figure upon rotation of the wheels. v
2. A toyv of the class described including a platform, a frame secured to the under :side of the platform, a crank shaft j ournaled in the frame, wheels carried by the crank shaft, a connectingrod pivotally secured .to the crank shaft, a link pivotally secured to the connecting rod and extending upwardly through the medial portion of the platform, a figure, members pivotally secured to the under side of the figure to represent legs, rods pivotally connecting the members together for movement simultaneously, and a plate pivotally secured to certain of the members, a reciprocatory rod pivotally secured to the first named members and to the plate of the last named members for simultaneous movement of all of the members upon rotation of the crank shaft, as and for the vpurpose specified.

A toy comprising a platform, a U- shaped frame secured by its web to the under side of the platform, a crank shaft journaled in the terminals of the arms of the frame, a connecting rod pivotally secured to the medial portion of the crank shaft, a link pivotally secured to the end of the connecting rod and having its free end extending upwardly through the medial portion of the platform, a figure including a body and having a recess on its under side, legs arranged in pairs and each pair pivotally secured to the under side of the body at the side edges thereof, rods pivotally connecting the inner ends of the pairs together, a plate pivotally secured to one leg of each pair, a reciprocating rod pivotally secured to the upper end of the link and its free end pivotally secured in the plate, and a tail pivotally secured to the rear end of the body of the figure, and a handle secured to the forward end of the platform for propelling the wheels for rotating the crank shaft for moving the legs of the figure.
4. A toy comprising a platform, a frame supporting the platform, a crank shaft journaled in the frame, wheels carried by the crank shaft, a connecting bar pivotally secured to the medial portion of the crank shaft, a link pivotally secured to the bar and extending upwardly through the platform, a block on the platform at the rear end thereof, a figure pivotally secured to the upper side of the platform, said figure including a body having a recess in its under side, legs arranged in pairs and pivotally secured on the under side of the body at the side edges thereof, the inner ends of which are arranged in the recess, rods pivotally secured to the inner ends of the legs, a rod defining a tongue pivotally secured to one leg and extending out through the forward end of the body, a tail pivotally secured to the rear end of the body, a reciprocating rod pivotally secured to the link and to certain of said legs for movement of the legs and tongue rod upon rotation of the wheels, and a handle secured to the platform, as and for the purpose specified.
