Description
4 m. MATHY. FURNACE FDR HEATING RODS AND THE LIKE.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 17, 1919 Patented m4, 1920.
TUNE
MAURICE MATHY, 0F LIEGE, BELGIUM.
FURNACE FOB HEATING RODS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 4, 1920.
Application filed July 17, 1919. Serial No. 311,607.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Mansion MATHY, manufacturer, a subject of the King of Belgium, and resident of Liege, in the Kingdom of Belgium, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Furnaces for Heating Rods and the like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked therein, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gas furnaces adapted for heating rods with a view to,the manufacture of bolts, rivets and the like, such heating being obtained by surface combustion.
This furnace substantially comprises two parts, firstly, a fixed part insuring the circulation of the hot gas through a series of radial fines or passages, and secondly, a
movable part carrying the rods, which are arranged radially thereon, and successively bringing these rods opposite the various fines or passages.
The invention is more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which The left hand portion of Figure 1 is a vertical axial section.
The right hand part of this figure is a partial vertical section on the line E F of the left hand part.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line A B of.
Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line C D of Fi 1.
. foundation or pedestal 1 supports, by the intermediary of uprights 2, a metal basin 3 containing a structure of fireproof material in which the lines or passaga hereinafter described are formed.
The gas, introduced by a pipe 4, enters an annular space 5 formed in the cover 6 of the basin 3. It passes from this space 5, by means of lines or passages 7 into an annu lar space 8 filled with porous and fire-proof material.
The air introduced by the pipe 9 is heated by circulating in a helicoidal passage 12 arranged around the chimney 11. It then en- The ends of these rods 15 to be heated rest in radial notches 0r grooves 16 arranged in a fire-proof plate 17 carried by a revolving basin 18. This basin is supported by ball bearings 19 running on the foundation or pedestal 1 and its rotation is effected by the handles 20.
Between grooves 16, vertical fines 21 are provided, from which the products of combustion are conveyed, by horizontal flues 22, to the chimney 11.
The hot gas conveyed by the lines 14 flows around the rods 15 and then spreads out on each side of said rods and is directed toward the chimney by the fines 21.
When a rod is sufliciently heated, it is removed and replaced by a cold rod. The workman then causes the basin 1 8 to turn by means of one of the handles 20 so as to bring in front of him a freshly heated rod.
It is evident that the heating of each rod takes place during the period of one rotation of the vessel 18.
I claim-- I 1. A gas furnace for heating rods comprising a fiameless combustion burner, a fixed plate under said burner provided with radial passages'for the release of the heating gases, and a movable fire-proof plate supporting the rods and revolving beneath said fixed plate.
2. A gas furnace for heating rods comprising a flameless combustion burner, a fixed plate under said burner provided with radial passages for the release of the heating gases, movable plate, and vertical. flues arranged in said movable plate between the rods for the escape of the hot ases.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MAURICE MATI-IY.
Witnesses LEONARD LERA, ARNOLDINE MELIN.
