Description

0. HALVORSEN.
BOTTLE HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-25, 1919.
Patented Apr. 27, 1920.
Specification 01' Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 27, 1920.
Application filed August 25, 1919. Serial No. 319,847. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that I, OLE HALVORSEN, a subject of Norway, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful' Improvement in Bottle Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates toimprovements in bottle holders whereina body portion operates in conjunction with a pair of jaws to retain bottles within registering recesses formed within said body portion and the pair of jaws closing thereon.
The primary object of my invention is to provide an improved bottle holder for transportation purposes.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an improved bottle holder for milk bottles and the like wherein the weight of the bottle tends to retain the device in a closed or retaining position. I accomplish these several objects by means of the improved device disclosed in the drawings forming a part of the present specification wherein like characters of reference are used to designate similar parts throughout the drawings, and in which;
F igure 1 is-a plan view of my improved bottle holder;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is an end elevation of Fig; 1 the pull lines disclosing a closed, and the dotted lines disclosing an open position of the device.
Referring to. the drawings the numeral 1 is used to designate what I term a bod portion of a frame preferably rectangu ar in shape and formed with oppositely positioned arcuate recesses 2 in each side thereof.
A centrally disposed longitudinal bar 3 is secured to the body portion 1 of the frame and is provided with upwardly and out- Wardly extending bifurcated portions 4:.
A jaw 5 is pivotally mounted between end bifurcations 4 on each side of the-body'portion 1 each jaw being provided with one or more arcuate recesses 6 arranged'to-register with the recesses 2 in the body portion 1.
A handle 7 is pivotally connected to the .upper ends of the jaws 5 by means of screws 8 which operate in slots 9 in the upper ends of said jaws 5 whereby relative. movement of the ends of said jaws 5 may be permitted.
In operation the body portion 1 is lowered, by means of the handle 7, over; a set of four milk bottles within the bottlecase,
not shown, by grasping said handle 7 and the central bar 3 to move said bar 3 andhandle 7 toward each other thereby opening the jaws 5 as disclosed in dotted lines in Fig.
3 of the drawings.
When the recesses 2 register with the necks of the bottles the bar 3 is released and the handle 7 is raised thereby closing the.
jaws 5 and causing the recesses 6 therein to close onto the necks of the bottles and below the annular flange generally formed on milk bottles.
The bottle holder may then be raised and as' separation of the bar 3 and handle 7 causes the closing of the jaws 5 upon said bottles it is evident that the weight of the said bottles wil ltend to lower the bar 3 and the frame 1 to which it is attached, and thereby normally retain the jaws 5 in a closed position.
To release the bottles it is only necessary to set the same on a suitable support, such as a table or any other plane supporting surface and raise the bar 3 toward the handle 7. This movement will cause the jaws 5 to separate from the body portion 1 and the entire device may then be'raised and removed from the bottles.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new-and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bottle holder comprising a body portion provided with oppositely positioned recesses and having upwardly extending standards on each end thereof; a jaw piv-' otally mounted on each side of the frame and to the standards and provided with recesses arranged to register with the recesses in the body;and a suitable handle connecting the jaws and arranged to close said jaws recesses therein arranged to register with the recesses in the body portion to engage and retain the necks of one or more bottles;
and. a suitable handle pivotallyconnected to said jaws'whereby said jaws may be closed-upon the body portion when said handle is raised tov retain bottles within said recesses.
3. A bottle holder comprising a body cesses in each side thereof an tendin bifurcated standards on each side thereo a jaw pivotally connected to the upper end of each bifurcation and having recesses therein arranged to register with the recesses in thebody portion to engage and retain. the necks ofone or more bottles; a
a suitable handle pivotally connected to said jaws whereby said 'aws may be closed upon "the body portion w en said handle is ralsed to retain bottles within said recesses; and
jaws whereby sai means for raising the body portion toward the handle to open the jaws and thereby release bottles from the recesses.
4. A bottle holder comprising a body portion having oppositely positioned recesses in each side thereof and upwardly extendin bifurcated standards on-eachside thereo a jaw pivotally connected to the upper end of each bifurcation and having recesses therein arranged to register-wit y portion to engage the recesses in the b0 and retain the necks of one or more bottles;
a suitable handlegivotallyconnected to said jaws may be closed upon upwardly exthe body ortion when said handle is raised to retain for raising said body portion toward the ottles within said recesses; and a central bar secured to the body portion.
handle whereby said aws may be opened to release the bottles.
5'. A bottle holder comprising a body portion having oppositely positioned re v 85 cured to the body ortion and having up cesses in each side thereof; a central bar sewardly extending. ifurcatedportions arranged at each end of said body portion; a
jaw pivotally mounted between the bifurcations on each side of the body portion and having recesses formed therein and arranged to register with the recesses in the body portion; and a suitable handle pivotally connected to the jaws and arranged to close-said jaws on the body portion when said handle is raised and to open said jaws when said handle is lowered to release bottles from said recesses. a
In witness whereof I hereunto set mysignature.
