SHOE-HEEL CONSTRUCTION.
. To all whom it may concern:
l may be done quickly and Be it 'known that I, WILLIAM J. MORGAN, a gitizen of the United States, residing at Bressler, in the county vof Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Heel -Constructions, of which the following is a specification. l
This invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in shoe heel construction and has particular application to means for effecting a detachable connection between the shoe heel and the lift.
In carrying out the present invention it is my purpose to provide means whereby a detachable connection may be effectedv be-I tween the heel portion of the shoe .proper and the lift so that in the event of the wearing out of the lift the latter may be removed and a new lift substituted therefor,
the construction and arrangement being such that the withdrawal or removal of the old lift and the insertion of the new lift conveniently and with a minimum 'effort on the part of the wearer of the shoe. t is also my purpose to .provide a detachable'connection of the class described which will be so constructed as to hold the lift securely and effectively in place on the heel portion of the shoe and which will prevent accidental disconnection of the lift from said heel portion, thereby preventing the loss of the lift in the wearing of the shoe.

With the above recited objects in View and others of a similar nature the inveni tion resides in the constructlon, combinationY and arrangement of parts set forth in and falling Awithin 'the scope of the appended claims.

This plate 4 and the rear curved portion of the heel is formedwith an inturned` flange 6 that underlies the plate 4 to form a channel 7 the ends of the channel .7 opening onto the straight edge portion of the` plate 4 as clearly illustrated in the drawmg.
The plate 4 adjacent to its forward end and between 'its side edges is cut as at 8 -to provide a spring tongue 9, thefree edge l suitable fastening means.
The plate 10 has its straight edge portion of the sides curved downwardly and i'nwardly as at 11 in order that the rear curved edge of the plate will be spaced apart vasof short distance from the lift so as to receive the flange 6 of thelchannel 7 on the plate 4.
The plate 10 at aI point between theside edges at an appropriate distancefrom the innerstrai'ght edge is 'cut as at 12 and thatv portion of the plate between the cut 12 vand theinner straight edge is depressed as 'at 13 so as to provide a shoulder 14 against which the free end of the tongue 9 may bear in order to prevent the accidental disconnection of the heel lift from the main tion the inner straight edge ofv the Aplate 10 4 1sv formed with upwardly and rearwardly turned fingers 15 suitably spaced apart and preferably arranged at the opposite sidesv of the depression 13. VThese fingers 15 are designed to engage over the straight edge ofthe plate 4 and rest in the depressions 1,6 formed in the straight edge of the plate 4.
In practice, the plate 4: is secured to the bottom ofrthe main body portion of the heel l, while the plate 10 is secured at the top surface of the lowerlift of the heel. In order to connect the lift of the heel to the main advance of the flanged portion of the plate 4f the plate 4f and thespaccd curved rear edge 'body portiona the plate l0 is engaged with the plated in. such manner that the curved 'i rear portion ofthe plate l() is' disposed in The plate 10 is now moved rearwardly over of the plate l0 engages in the channel 7 formed by the flange 6, while the spring tongue 9 is clamped behind the shoulder lll with .the effect to lock the plates securely together-so as to prevent accidental discon- 4 v,nection f the lift from the main body portion of the heel. From the foregoingdescription taken in l ,heel quickly and with a minimum effort on the part of the wearer. vFurthermore, it will be seen that by means of my improved detachable connection, the lift is securely andeifectively heldin engagement with the main body portion of the heel so that accidental 'disconnection ofthe lifty from the main body portion of the heel is avoided. Having thus' described my invention I l. .The cdmbination with the main body portion of a heel and a heel lift, of a detachabl'e connection between said body por- `tion and heelplift comprising a plate se-- cured to the lowerside of the main body vlportieri of the-heel andl conforming to the .l 'configuration of said body portion, a iiange f at the curved edge of said heel forming a channel, a second plate secured to the upper surface of the 'heel lift and vhavingthe side portions-contiguous to the straight edge eX- .tended laterally and turned downwardly and inwardly to provide flanges to space lthe curved edge of said second named plate from the heel lift wherebycurved spaced portions engage fin said channel and said plates are placed in face to face contact, means kon the confronting faces of said plates acting to prevent accidental disconnection of the same, and means for detachably connecting the forward straight edges of said plates.
2. The combination with the main body portion of a heelV and a heellift, of a detachable connection between said body portion and heel lift comprising a plate secured to the lower side of the main body portion of the heel and conforming to the conguray tion of said body portion, a flange et the curved edge of said heel forming a channel, a second plate .secured to the upper surface of the heel lift and having the side portions contiguous to the straight edge extending laterally and turned downwardly and inwardly to lprovide flanges to space the curved edge of said second named plate from the heel lift whereby curved spaced portions engage in said channel and said plates are placed in face to face contact, means on the confronting faces of said plates acting to prevent accidental disconnection of 90 the same and including' a spring tongue cut out of the first inentioned plate adapted to engage behind-a shoulder formed onthe second named plate and means for detachably connecting the forward straight edges of said plates.
3. The combinationwith theA main body portion of a heel and a heel lift, of a detachable connection between said body portion and heel lift comprising a plate secured to 100 the lower side of the main body portion of the heel and conforming to the configuration of said body portion, a flange at the curved .edge of saidheel forming a channel, a second plate secured to the upper surface of v the heel lift and having the side portion contiguous to the straight edge turned downwardly vand inwardly to space the curved edge of said second named plate from the heellift whereby cur ed spaced 110 portions engage in said cha'nue and said plates are placed in face tol fate contact, means on the confronting faces of said plates acting to prevent accidental disconnection of the same, and fingers .formed on thest'raight edge of the second 'named plate and overlying the latter and adapted to engage over the straightA edge portionl of the Erst named plate to secure said plates to each other and the ,straight edges thereof.
