UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAXIMILIAN W. WUESTHOFF, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOB TO M GLAUBER BRASS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
DRINKING--FOUNTAIN BOWL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 27, 1920.
Application filed August 1, 1918. Serial No. 247,714.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAXnuiILIAN WV. l funsrrrorr, citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drinking-Fountain Bowls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprises a drinking fountain in which the drinking stream is delivered laterally in an inclined plane in a bowl having an inclined bottom and incurved border walls opposite the point of discharge, the object being to confine and accommodate any variation in pressure and a spurting of the water beyond normal working limits, as well as to eilect a rapid k and complete drainage of the water (leposits in the bowl.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a sectional view of my improved drinking fountain, and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
The invention comprises an elongated shallow vessel or bowl 2 having a curved bottom 3 and a curved border wall l which is bent to provide an overhanging flange 5 on all sides. This flange 5 is supplemented by a curved lip 6 at a point immediately above the jet member 7, and the bowl is formed .with a tubular nipple 8 at its bottom end and on its longitudinal median line to receive the jet member and to ail'o'rd a connection with a water supply pipe, not shown. The axis of the nipple and et member is on a straight line which points to the border pocket in the opposite end of the bowl, so that if an extreme pressure is placed on the Water supply there can be no spur-ting of the water out of the bowl, and
both the jet and the bowl are inclined relatively to a horizontal plane so that drinking will be greatly facilitated. The water entering the bowl will also quickly run down the inclined bottom and pass out of the large vertical drain opening 9 at the lower end of the bowl, and the bowl has a short neck 10 to connect with a drain and stand pipe 11.
What I claimis:
1. A drinking fountain, comprising a shallow elongated bowl having an upright rim and provided with a jet member set in such relation to said rim that the axis of the jet member if extended will come within said rim to deliver a stream of water latorally and upwardly at an inclination within the bowl regardless of the pressure on the stream.
2. A drinking fountain, comprising an inclined bowl having a jet member located. at its lower end and arranged to project a stream of water upwardly at an inclination into the bowl and below the rim of the bowl however great the pressure on the stream. and said bowl having a drain opening in bottom.
3. A drinking fountain, comprising a shallow curved bowl adapted to be supported in an inclined position and provided with a water delivery jet inclined in the same relative direction as the bowl and with its axis in suchrelation to the opposite wall of the bowl that the drinking stream will be confined within the border limits of the bowl. under all normal and abnormal pressures.
4. A drinking fountain, comprising a shallow bowl having inturned. border walls. means to support said bowl. in an inclined plane, and a jet member inclined relatively to a horizontal plane at the lower end of said bowl with its axis projected on a direct line beneath the top of the opposite border wall to discharge a drinking stream into the bowl and under no conditions outside the bowl.
5. In drinking fountain, a bowl and a jet member mounted in said bowl with the axis thereof inclined and pointing on a straight line to a wall of the bowl below the rim thereof so that however great the pressure the stream will under no conditions be projected outside the bowl.
Signed at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, this 19th day of January, 1918.
MAXIMILIAN WV. WUESTHOFF.
