"N 1TB@ PATENT @FFEQEQ JOHN T. CAREAG, OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.
ENVELOP.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, JOHN T. VCAREAGA, a`
envelops.
The object of this invention is to provide an envelop formed of a single sheet and so constructed as to provide a plurality of pockets for the reception of various letters so as to permit more than one letter to be transported by the envelop when in folded position and each in a separate pocket.
A still further object of this invention is to provide an envelop of a plurality of let-- ter receiving pockets, which may be sealed independently or simultaneously and that each pocket may be opened to take out a letter independent of the other pockets.
A still further object of this invention is to provide an envelop of this `character which will be simple, practical and comparatively inexpensive in construction, and one that can be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank of the preferred forni of my invention,
Fig. 2 is a sectional view illustrating the manner in which the envelop is started to be folded,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view illustrating the envelop fully folded and ready to be sealed,
Fig. 4 is a plan view showing the first initial folding operation,
Fig. 5 is a plan view illustrating the envelop fully folded,
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the envelop folded and sealed,
Fig. 7 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 Specification of Letters Patent. I Patented Rial'. 30, 1920.
Application med octets1 2, 1917.
Serial No. 194,364.
designates a rectangular sheet from which my envelop is constructed. The sheet 5 divided off into sections 7, 8, 9 yand 10. The sections 7 and 8 are divided by the line 11, the sections 8 and 9 are divided by the line 12 and the sections 9 and 10 are divided by the line 13. At the point of connection lof the section 8 with the section 9 there is provided a tongue 111- which is defined by slitting the section 8 yas at 15.
The section 7 is provided With the side flaps 16 and sealing tongue 17 and the side iiaps and tongue provided on one face With a suitable adhesive 18 and 18. The section 9 .is provided with side liaps 19 which are provided on one face with a suitable adhesive 19. The section 10 is provided with side flaps 20 and a sealing tongue 21 which are provided on one faceV with a suitable adhesive 22. The adhesive on the flaps .20 and the sealing tongue 21 is on the reverse side to the adhesive which isron the side flaps 16 and 19 and the sealing tongue 17 of the sec'- tions 7 and 9 respectively.
When folding the preferred form of the envelop to provide a plurality of pockets, it is only necessary after the initial fold to fold the sections 9 and 10 back upon the sections 7 and 8, folding the blank on the line 12. Thusvthe line 13 is in alinement with the line 11 and the envelop is then folded on the lines 11 and 13, respectively, folding the section 10, thereby illustrating the construction shown in Fig. 5. The side fla-ps 16 are then sealed to the side flaps 19 which are in turn sealed to the side Haps 20 and the side flaps 20 are secured against the outer face of the section 8, thereby providing a plurality of independent pockets which maybe effectively sealed by the tongues 14, 17 and 21.
It is to be understood that these pockets may be independently sealed or may be all sealed at one time, thus completely closing the envelop and permitting it to be transported through the mails Without liability of its contents being lost.
Fig. 4; illustrates the initial folding operation of the blank and Fig. 5 illustrates the blank when in fully closedposition prior to sealing the side flaps and'tongue.
W'hat is claimed is An envelop comprising a blank divided into four integral sections and having struck up there from a tongue adjacent the edge of the third section und forming a slot in the second section, side flaps formed on the irst` third and fourth sections, sealing tongues formed on the edges of the iirst and fourth sections, said tongues and flaps having udhesive thereon, said third and fourth seotions being folded back on the fir-stand ond sections and then the second and third sections folded on the first and fourth seetions to form @plurality of pockets and disposing the sealing tongues and the first named tongue in eloserelation to euoh other for closing the pocket-s, said flaps being sealed together and to one lce of the seeond section, said slot forming a mouth to one 15 of the pockets.
ln testimony whereof I aiix iny signatureY in presence of two Witnesses.
