homa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification,- reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This inventlon relates to certain improvements 1n door fasteners and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with screen doors or the like; and it is an object of the invention to provide a fastener of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the same will automatically engage a screen door or the like and effectively maintain the same in closed position but ofi'er no undue hindrance to the opening of the screen door when the requirements of practice necessitate.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of our' improved door fastener whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and. otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more-fully set forth.

The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed In order that our invention may be the,

better understood, we will now'proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in (perspective of a door fastener constructs in accordance with an embodiment of our invention; and

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a door rabbet roduced in a door 'amb J and with whic coacts the door 15, preferably a screen-door.

The returned portion 7 at a predeterminedpoint inwardly of its free end is provided with the transversely disposed offset 8 which affords a shoulder adapted to engage the outer edge or face of the door D, and whereby said door is held in closed position. This action is further facilitated in view of the fact that the returned portion 7 possesses a certain degree of inherent resiliency when the free end portion thereof is constantly urged toward the door D when said door D is in contact therewith. It is alsoto be noted that the offset portion 8 is on such an incline as to readily permit the door being forced open without material interference.

It has also been found of importance to have the bend-6 oifsetlaterally and in a direction away from the returned portion 7 so that said returned portion 7 intermediate the band 6 and the offset 8 is free and uni obstructed.

From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a door fastener constructed in accordance with our invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and. is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience'and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also'be ob vious that our invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason we do not .wish to be understood as'limiting ourselves to the precise arran ement and formation 1 of the several parts erein shown in carrying out our invention inpractice, except as portion returned, said returned portion at a predetermined point inwardly of its free end being offset transversely to afford a ishoulder, said returned portion being resilient, said returned portion intermediate the shoulder and the free end thereof be-.
