G. L. MINERS.
COMBINED REFLECTOR AND GUARD FOR ELECTRIC LAMPS.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT- 3, I919.
Patented Mar. 23, 1920.

GEORGE-LEWIS MINERS, F BIWAIBIK, MINNESOTA.
' COMBINED REFLECTOR AND GUARD FOR ELECTRIC LAMPS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented M31". 23, 1920.
Application filed September 3, 1919. Serial No. 321,329.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE L.'MINERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Biwabik, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements'in Combined Reflectors and Guards for Electric Lamps,
lll
ill
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combined reflector and guard for electric light bulbs. An important object of this invention is .to provide a combined guard and reflector for electric lights having novel means to permit of the ready attachment to or re moval of the electric light bulb from the socket associated with the device.
Afurthe-r object of the invention is toprovide a device of the class described which is simple, neat 'in appearance, and
cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the in vention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
ln the accompanying drawing forming a part-of this application and in which, like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective of a device emb' odying my invention,
Fig. 2 is a central. longitudinal section through the same, the guard being shown open, and,
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. l. y
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designatcs a semi-bulbous shaped reflector having a reduced neck 6. A collar 7 is secured to the rear end portion of the neck 6' and extends. about the exterior of the same. The collar 7 is provided with an interiorly arranged annular flange 8 which is U-shaped in cross section and is connected with an annular r1m 9hav1ng inwardly directed lugs 10. The inwardly directed lugs 10.exten dinto openings 11 of an attaching'band 12 which is adapted to be arranged about a socket 13. The band 12 is secured about the socket 13 by a screw 'bolt 14 which is extended through cars 15 as is obvious from Figs. 1 and 2. The forward portion of the reflector 5 and the adjacent portion of a guard 16 are provided with alining hinge barrels 17 receiving a pivot pin 18. The
In the practice of my invention, the guard is moved outwardly on its pivot as illustrated in Fig. 2 to permit of the insertion of an electric light bulb into the socket 13. The guard 16 is now closed and is engaged by the spring catch 24 which serves to mlock same closedr In using the device in connection with an electric drop light employed in shops and other places, the reflector serves to shade the eyes anddirects the light to the work, while the guard serves to protect the electric bulb. When it is desired tolremove the bulb, the guard is opened, as illustrated'in Fig. 2, and the ing the same from the socket.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment 'of my invention, it is understood that such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts may be made as will remain within the invention and the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A device of the class described including a reflector, a guard pivoted at one end to the adjacent end of the reflector, a collar carried by the reflector .and extending be yond one side of the same, a shoulder carried by the collar and adapted to limit the inward movement of the guard, and a ing a se1ni bulbous shaped reflector, a guard.
pivoted at its forward end to the forward ,bu-lb may be readily removed by unscrewend of the reflector, a collar secured to the opposite end of the reflector and extending beyond one side of the same, a curved shoulder carried by the collar and extending transversely of the reflector and having its reflector, a transversel extending shoulder ends terminating adjacent the same and secured between said ange and said collar adapted to limit the movement of said for forming a stop element for said guard, guard, and a locking device associated with a locking member carried by said shoulders 5 said shoulder for engaging said guard. for engaging the rear end portion of said 15 3. A device of the class described includguard, and an attaching device associated ing a reflector, a guard pivoted at its forwith the said collar. ward end to the forward end of the reflec- In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
tor, a collar having an interiorly arranged 10 annular flange engaging the rear end of the GEORGE LEWIS MINERS. [L- s.]
